Watching.
Because I'm too much of a sissy to fight.

Re: Which attribute would you have?
Timing beats speed in defence and offence and if you can't land the power is inconsequential.
Re: Which attribute would you have?
All of them. But, in order - timing, power then speed.

Re: Which attribute would you have?
Power and speed, my best attribute is a concrete chin.
Re: Which attribute would you have?
to me 1 power and 2 speed.
i walk love to have super speed, but KO power in either hands would be the best.

Re: Which attribute would you have?
Isn't speed a necessary component of power? Power = speed x strength
Re: Which attribute would you have?
Aye buy speed x no strength = no power.Enlightened-One wrote:Isn't speed a necessary component of power? Power = speed x strength

In order of importance, I'd say timing, then speed, then power.
I've done a fair bit of sparring in my time, with amateur and one professional boxers and I was always praised as having very good power for my size, but I definitely lacked in speed, timing and especially stamina compared to the more accomplished boxers I shared the ring with.

Had i become a pro boxer, say at 18,when i was 5-8,i would've fought at 135-140. At that time my top attributes would've been speed and stamina. Zoom ahead a few years, after i had filled out a bit to around 160 at 5-10,i would've been more towards a brawler(Mickey Ward) type. And another few years later,in my mid 20's and later 20's i'd have filled out even more to the 175 division and i'd be a combination of decent speed,power,timing(counter-punching)and stamina all combined.
Re: Which attribute would you have?
My inclination would be to run away so I'd say "speed" ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Speed. Fast reflexes (head movement eg Tyson/Rooney) and hand speed are vital. Great footwork is the hallmark of the best champions. Amazing how long it took for British boxing to catch on. Even now we haven't seen a British Pacquiao, Ali, Leonard, Robinson etc. The most mobile British fighter I have seen was Calzaghe.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Power

Power next as it keeps opponents wary and can mean early nights. If only Frank Bruno and Gary Mason had possessed slightly better footwork.. Yes I know you need to be grounded to deliver power, which is why you rarely see both in one fighter.
Timing last but not least. It seems to be connected to confidence in the ring. Duran is the one I remember best. Even against bigger more powerful fighters he seemed fearless and at ease.

Re: Which attribute would you have?
I got power and speed, but timing would be the handiest in a fight.

There is more to timing than anyone knows ...
I challenge anyone to describe / define it ...

Re: Which attribute would you have?
Yeah but no one talks about timing in the mechanics of a punch ... "form" ...Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Jul 2018, 15:32Timing when to duck and bob etc. When to counter?Sequitorian wrote: ↑03 Jul 2018, 15:01 There is more to timing than anyone knows ...

... just as important ... maybe MORE important than anything else ...

Re: Which attribute would you have?
Timing would probably be the most important of the 3. Because speed and power only do so much for you if you're not accurate, if you have good timing I'd assume that would mean you're accurate.
Re: Which attribute would you have?

I always thought his power was more from speed than actually having true pure knock out powerSyntax Error wrote: ↑03 Jul 2018, 18:02Sugar Ray Leonard.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Jul 2018, 17:48 Here’s a question..

Re: Which attribute would you have?
Some obvious examples are Jack Dempsey Ray Robinson, Mike Tyson, and Roy Jones Jr.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Jul 2018, 17:48 Here’s a question..

All of them near untouchable at their peaks.
