Re: Conor Benn
An opponent doesn't need to be paid to dive. All you need is a British ref to arbitrarily decide when he's "in no position to continue," wink wink.
Re: Conor Benn
Benn will win this by KO then carry on fighting more bums for the foreseeable while we're forced to listen to Sky tell us how much of a prospect he is blah blah.... Boring
Fact of the matter is that if he wasn't Benns son then most of us on here probably wouldn't have even heard of him and he certainly wouldn't have been on tv....

Re: Conor Benn
Conor isn't anything to write home about
Re: Conor Benn
I dare anyone to watch that fight back and tell me that it wasn't damn exciting.
Conor has big balls and a real win to win.

Re: Conor Benn
It was a cracking fight, more of the same Saturday please.
Re: Conor Benn
He comes in for a lot of stick on here, but the qualities you listed means he’s going to be in some exciting fights in the future (even if they are fought at a lower level!). I’ll defo keep following his career, overhyped or not!
Re: Conor Benn
Conor Benn has already proven against this french pastry chef that he isnt even British level.
He got a gift win after being dropped more times than a hoors knickers, but thats the privilige of having a famous name and British ref/judge on your side.
As people say here, the first combo he lands on the rope that ref is diving in Calzaghe vs Manfredo Jr style and stopping it prematurely. They call it a British stoppage.

Re: Conor Benn
Nice to see Sky TV did a 30 minute presentation on Benn last night. There must be a few quid invested in this lad.
Watching the first fight back I can see Benn being tighter this fight and seeing off Peynaud inside the distance.

Re: Conor Benn
10 rounds makes this interesting.
But Benn has no natural talent at all. The soon he takes his first loss the better. As it is coming back from that which will define him.

Re: Conor Benn
If he ever gets near a British title shot it will be a travesty for all the boxers who work their bollox off for a few hundred quid selling £50 tickets to their friends and family whilst having a day job.
Re: Conor Benn
I'll be interested to see how his oppo approaches the fight. He was probably slightly unlucky not to get the nod but then I felt Benn's conditioning and drive late on in the fight would probably have forced the stoppage. He looked to be tiring badly as Benn still had loads left.
I think he's had plenty of notice so I'd hope he's slightly better prepared or at least more prepared to go beyond six, unless he goes full ham and tries for an early KO.
ten rounds is an interesting distance based on it being a six rounder last time, maybe the promoters are hoping it'll be a continuation of the last fight and the distance favours Benn more than it does Peynaud.

Re: Conor Benn
If the French man didn't get the decision in the first fight .Can't seeing him getting it in this one .Don't rate conor I can't see him winning a British title.

Re: Conor Benn
Benn wont get to round 10, i doubt even his conditioning will allow him to get ten rounds. I feel Benn will stop him inside 4, if it goes further will be intersting to see if Benn can go more than 6 rounds.orbtastic wrote: ↑28 Jul 2018, 06:08 I'll be interested to see how his oppo approaches the fight. Re: Conor Benn
I can't see Benn lasting 10 either
Re: Conor Benn
I'd be curious to know when it was decided (rather than announced) it would be 10 rounds and just how much notice each boxer had.
Re: Conor Benn
And also the reasoning behind the decision - this level of fight without a minor title would never be a 10 rounder.
Also agree that he might be too anxious and waste a lot of energy to last 10 rounds.
Re: Conor Benn
So even without the fake KD, Benn managed to actually beat Paynaud this time.
Lucky for Benn, Paynaud isn't a hard hitter, because boy did he get caught with some clean chots (again).
I just can't get excited about Benn.
Paynaud is ranked #13 - in France
Sure Benn is only young, but he needs a lot of work in the basics before he is ready for even a British title attempt. Time will tell I guess...

Re: Conor Benn
Some clueless presenter on talk sport was suggesting benn has everything he needs to “go all the way”. Gareth Davies who should know better blithely agreed with him
Re: Conor Benn
Benn doesn't even have a quarter of what he needs to go all the way
No fundamentals at all

Josh Kelly is ten times more exciting a WW prospect than Benn. Paynaud is the type of guy Kelly would have blasted out in 4 rounds back when he was 0-0.
