He never rematched him DESPITE being offered over $30 million, which was unheard of money in those times... He wanted NO PART of Vitali, especially after he harpooned Kirk Johnson in two rounds.

Lewis was past his best by then and retired,he knew he was on the slide and could possibly lose the rematch so chose not too, however Vitali got his chance and failed,it's not like Lennox got lucky,he took all of Vitali's best shots and came from behind to win, simple as that

Win? He was behind on all scorecards. He may have "won" but he didn't beat him. His refusal of a rematch when he said he would, was evidence enough.

Lewis is just an average social player at chess, He wouldn’t even be good enough to beat a lower end club player.
I've seen some of his games, he plays like a poor central park hustler, truly awful. Vitali beat him easily before their first fight (At Chess that is lol).

'He may have won but he didn't beat him' ? so he lost then ? god some people are so bitter after all these years,i always though that in boxing the idea was to hit the other guy in the face or body and cause damage so he couldn't continue, maybe i got that wrong

Win is the same as won.

If he took his best shots, was behind on the cards and still managed to produce the uppercut from hell and bust vitalis face wider than the grand canyon. I'd say he won the fight. Which means he did win the fight.

I guess Carl froch lost to Jermaine Taylor?

Hot Chocolate will have to come up with a new title for their hit song ' you win again',maybe they could call it 'you win again, but you didn't win really, however it says win on my record' ,not sure it would catch on really

Have the Queensbury Rules been updated, whereby a fighter has to he ahead on the scorecards at the time he forces a stoppage too?

The refusal of a mythical rematch is a red herring & has nothing to do with the result of their actual fight.

Boring isn’t it.

Had it continued Vitali would have ended up damaged for life. That was as bad a cut as I’ve ever seen, not to mention he had cuts in his mouth too and was swallowing blood.

I don’t know what these supposed fans want.

Just looking back at the photos, he has five different cuts around the eye and that’s ignoring the cuts in his mouth.

Madness to want him to be allowed to continue.

Trailerpark logic in effect. It's practically metaphysical.

The referee should have let the fight continue, eventually Vitali would have forced the stoppage, he was wearing down Lewis’ hands with his face...

You know what, you're right, another 28 rounds, and Lewis would have had two stumps where his hands used to be.

Of course by then Vitali's face would have been smeared all over the canvas, but that's no reason to stop the fight.

It would have been far better if Vitali had continued until he was so badly cut that he had to retire,at least he would have been able to talk to his kids about it in years to come.

Better how?

He may well have not been able to fight again if he continued, but in any case, no way should any fighter with cuts that bad be allowed to carry on.
