Kevin Buckley....big hype when he started as had a rivalry with Anthony Crolla. Sadly his shoulder gave way and had to jack it in...seems it was damaged from plastering

Fireball looked great on the way up beat Tonchev with ease. But then if I recall he would balloon up in weight and looked dead against Gethin in his breakout fight.
Bhatia was decent but wasn’t a ticket seller and lost his two biggest fights. So probably struggled to get fights after that. I went to uni with his cousin & he was trying to get me to get a group of people to go to his fights.
Shame but I guess that what it boils down to unless you are a really special talent - bums on seats.

Who was that Flintoff guy who fought on a Barry McGuigan promotion demolishing an American prospect on his debut then he just vanished

Adrian Gonzalez, remember him KOing John Kays a few years back and looking forward to seeing where he went next. Been inactive ever since.

Adrian Dodson what was his record?
At the time wasn’t Ian McNeilly close friends with Fewkes and said he didn’t live the life outside of the ring so it caught up with him eventually? Didn’t he come back a weight or two above where he was previously?

What about Kenny Anderson. I always rated him. I know he failed a drug test, I guess he just didn't want to wait and took another path. But who would have thought Reid would be his last fight.

I cant remember the source, but I read a few years ago that most pro boxers end up retiring / packing it in having had less than 10 fights.
I guess that half a dozen fights over 3 or 4 years for small purses, pressure to sell tickets etc. whilst having a day job is draining when all they want to do is box.
Re: Promising boxers that disappeared/walked away
He had a lot of legal issues as well. Think he ended up doing time for doing someone with a hammer.

I see a fair bit of Tony. He's about 16stone now.
He got hos jaw broken in a fight with Geraint Harvey and never came back.
Like a lot of travellers, nutrion and dedication to living the life wasn't 100%.
He did a few bareknuckle gypsy fights and did very, very well and he was training a few traveller amateur lads.
Last I heard he was doing something down at Gary Locketts gym, coaching wise but if I'm 100% honest I can't see it lasting long.

He was a big talent but in hindsight it was a terrible idea to put him in with Winky Wright just as Wright was getting really good.CharlesListon wrote: ↑23 Aug 2018, 08:43From what I can recall, Dodson got to a level and that was that.dave_smith wrote: ↑22 Aug 2018, 18:14Adrian Dodson what was his record?

Prince Patel seems to be squandering a World Class technique, as well as charm - now he's confined himself to sharing his greatness with the needy and greedy of Hungary.
Joking aside, and forgiveness begged for taking thread on a tangent but his last fight was literally in a Budapest Primary school FFS: Gregor József School!
It's like Spinal Tap ending up doing gigs in amphitheaters at empty amusement parks. Spinal Tap were still big in Japan however.

I wouldn’t call Dodson a boxer that disappeared, his Career career lasted 10 years from 1993-2003.. you could definitely call him a talent tho, he couldn’t get on with any trainer or promoter tho and that was his downfall, he was amazing to watch doing things in the gym that I have never seen before.
Autobarn Is right about the Winky fight...

It was after the Danny Jacobs fight. I think was to do with back problems. As for Andrew Selby I think he is due a European title fight soon.

Ryuya Yamanaka will probably end up a list like this in the years to come...
...I mention him as the news broke today that he's retiring due to a subural hematoma :( ...at the age of 23! ;_;

Zeljko Mavrovic, 27(22)-1 with his only loss on points to Lennox Lewis, gave up due to health reasons.
