Groves isn't a quitter, he was knocked out it happens. Would you rather see him get up defenceless and get very badly hurt?

The line up for both tournaments was so strong because the money was impossible to turn downsamwbr wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 03:09Good for him, I'm surprised it was that high tho.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 02:11 Callum’s prize money was just over £4m.
In losing, Groves made around £2.2m..
Very good money for a tournament final.

Groves shook his head and QUIT on the floor. I'm stating a fact. I didn't criticize him for it.samwbr wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 03:12Groves isn't a quitter, he was knocked out it happens. True. Is Smith hit most people here with a jab, they wouldn’t get up. I was surprised and disappointed but didn’t think he’d quit, Groves has ballssamwbr wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 03:12Groves isn't a quitter, he was knocked out it happens. He did quit mate. Nothing against him for it but the bottom line is he quit. He shook his head and rose as soon as the ref finished the count if he was that hurt off the body shot there would be no way he would be standing that soon aftersamwbr wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 03:12Groves isn't a quitter, he was knocked out it happens. Groves obviously quitted. I'm not blaming him though, but that was damn obvious. He isn't out, he's ready to stand up, but he shakes his head and stands right after the count. What the hell is it, if not quitting?

PC brigade will shame you for what you posted there but a blind man can see you are right.
We've seen fighters who have won the world titles and made their money lose some of their toughness late on in their career.
Groves had no quit in him before but when it came down to it this time he wanted out. You can't imagine Groves from the Froch fights shaking his head and staying down for the count.
Re: Round-by-Round: WBSS 168 Final - George Groves vs. Callum Smith - 28 September 2018
Was out last night so didn't see the fight and that's me only seeing the result when I came on here. Well done to Smith. Bit of a coming out party for him with that win. I'll watch the fight later and make a judgement but it's hard to see where Groves goes from here. Lot of miles on the clock and he's made his money so maybe it's the end of the road?
Re: Round-by-Round: WBSS 168 Final - George Groves vs. Callum Smith - 28 September 2018
I wanted Groves to win but everybody gets old and last night was kind of a passing of the torch. I know it was the body shot that finished him but I thought Groves still looked a bit glassy eyed when they interviewed him in the ring. He's never come across as the sort of idiot who would blow all his money so I'm sure he's quite secure financially and I would be happy to see him retire now. Entertaining fighter who achieved enough to jack it in and be able to look back on an impressive record. He doesn't need to fight again.
Re: Round-by-Round: WBSS 168 Final - George Groves vs. Callum Smith - 28 September 2018
Big groves fan so pretty gutted for George
I thought groves looked much slower than usual, call itvage or miles on the clock.
Smith stepped up to the plate well though, was patient, good movement making groves work hard. Groves was more out his comfort zone thN Smith was, due to height and reach mainly.
Think groves had the power to hurt smith, but getting in range for that to happen looked a problem.
On the flip side groves definitely felt smiths power and it was a peach counter to set up the finish
It wasn’t a quit he got stopped clinically

Writing on the wall early. Didn't Smith catch groves with a right in the first? It looked hard and it was surprising fast too. Too big a compliment this but Smith reminded me a bit of monzon. Huge for the weight, patient but chillingly effective. Someone made the point about groves having to fight at 100% to keep Smith off him. Very true. Groves should retire for sure. He took defeat brilliantly though. Class act.

Groves can call it now and have nothing to be ashamed of
Re: Round-by-Round: WBSS 168 Final - George Groves vs. Callum Smith - 28 September 2018
Yeah he did, think Groves knew immediately he was up against it, Callum boxed well at range and didn't give George much encouragement to get on the inside.cfang wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 05:49 Writing on the wall early. It's always the same with body shot KOs, you can bet your life that some people will say the recipient quit.

Like Khan said after the fight. Body shots are worse than head shots.jtourettes wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 06:30 It's always the same with body shot KOs, you can bet your life that some people will say the recipient quit.
You'd look at Smith and think he was just throwing flurry's, but they were all timed, the body shot was perfect. Groves lifted his arm, body shot came in nicely.

Hmmm, still think I’d rather take the potentially horrendous pain from a body shot than be laid out completely by a head shot like Khan was against Canelo...Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 07:26Like Khan said after the fight. Khan has made head shots look painful.. But the way guys go down due to body shots. You can tell it's painful.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 07:49Hmmm, still think I’d rather take the potentially horrendous pain from a body shot than be laid out completely by a head shot like Khan was against Canelo...Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 07:26Like Khan said after the fight. Groves was on his feet as soon as the count was done and was shaking his head on the floor. A good body shot takes all the life out of you and you can't breath or think. Groves shaking his head and getting up as soon as the count ended tells me he quit. If he wanted to he could of rose before the count, he didn't so in my eyes he quitjtourettes wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 06:30 It's always the same with body shot KOs, you can bet your life that some people will say the recipient quit.
