I don't get this train of thought. Conor couldn't ko Nate who was ktfo by Josh Thompson. Khabib got nailed with a similar shot from Johnson that ktfo Poirier and took it standing.

There is no indication that Khabib can get koed by Conor. However, there is plenty of evidence of Conor being submitted... Several times.

History makes way for the educated pick being Khabib. Saying that Conor will ko Khabib is a biased, uneducated pick of how the fight will end. Not saying it can't happen, but it's a hopeful statement.

Just sayin...
Was there any indication that the likes of Poirier, Aldo and Alvarez would be knocked out as easily as they were by McGregor? There might be no evidence that Khabib is a knockout waiting to happen, but there's plenty of evidence of McGregor knocking out fighters who definitely weren't a knockout waiting to happen.

You could also argue that there's no evidence that Khabib can avoid being lit up on the feet because he hasn't fought anyone with hands as good as McGregor's.

I'm not saying one argument is right and one is wrong, but it works both ways. And Khabib taking a shot from Johnson that knocked out Poirier is sort of irrelevant IMO because Johnson and McGregor are different people.
Dustin, Aldo, and Alvarez had all been knocked down with strikes before facing McGregor. And that was at 145.

Khabib is a huge LW. And he has never been knocked down. He got caught flush by Michael Johnson, who in my opinion has bigger 1 punch power than McG. And he took it standing. McG stopped Poirier but did not knock him unconscious. MJ knocked him unconscious and at a higher weight. So tell me, if Conor couldn't stop Nate with his striking, a man who has been knocked unconscious by a fighter not seen as the striker Conor is supposed to be, how do you come to the conclusion that he will knock out a guy who has proven to have a sturdy chin?

My perspective is if Conor doesn't get Khabib hurt with one shot, he's done for. So Conor fans are banking on his power to keep Khabib honest. I just don't see an indication of Conor's power at lw giving Khabib any serious trouble as long as he can avoid the accumulation of shots.

I haven't come to the conclusion that Conor WILL knock Khabib out. I never said that. I'm saying that Conor has knocked out fighters before who weren't exactly known for having weak chins so just because Khabib has taken decent shots from others doesn't mean he'll take them from McGregor. And Johnson may or may not be a bigger puncher than Conor, but I think its clear that McGregor is a more accomplished striker. Johnson's follow up punches when he hurt Khabib were completely wild, McGregor is a more skilled finisher on the feet.

Again, I'm not saying that Conor knocks him out, I'm saying that the evidence we have of both of their careers doesn't particularly support one argument more than the other when it comes to whether he can or not.

I hope Khabib wins tonight (although I do like Conors fighting style aswell minus all the other nonsense) - I have a feeling If Khabib is victorious, he's gonna have to absorb some punishment first. He's always seemed like he's had a good chin to me from what I've seen so far.

Tonight will be the real acid test of that though. Hopefully he passes the test. If he can do a traditional Khabib style job on Conor, he'll become a big star.

I don't like Khabib..... but I also don't like McGregor's attitude of "above the law", etc.... White has ruined MMA with his mock-WWE antics (ie, Lesnar & Cormier) and I've stopped watching the UFC as a result... Bellator is such a damn circus, too, that I have switched to just watching kickboxing matches (ie, Jorina Baars) or smaller organizations like Legacy.

The evidence of both of their careers absolutely supports the idea of McG getting submitted more so than Khabib getting koed.

I'm not sure. I really like Pettis, but I'm pretty sure Tony is going to beat him. Stylistically, it's an insane matchup. Both great strikers and jiu jitsu practitioners. They are two of the most creative fighters in the sport. But Tony has a lot of momentum on his side, is bigger, and is a better wrestler.

Looking forward to the card :box:

Schuab said a couple of days back, he'd heard through the grape vine that Khabib wants to beat Connor and retire, unless the UFC can offer him a super fight like GSP. Win or lose id still like to see more of him in the future.

Should be a good night.

I think Khabib has the upper hand in this fight.

The telling factor will be if McGregor can hurt Khabib and make him respect McGregor. If his biggest shots do not have much of an effect on him, then its going to be a long night.

I don't see McGregor getting a one punch KO as such but his best chance is to land big shots and get Khabib bloodied up like Diaz. This will give him his best chance to win the fight. He will to do alot of damage early. If Khabib is still looking fresh by the 3rd, McGregor will get hurt.

Generally speaking it is. I love watching Tiffany "Time Bomb" Van Soest, for example. But I've always been partial to Kickboxing. When I was a kid I watched Rick "The Jet" Roufus alot and was a diehard fan of K-1 back in the day when Ernesto Hoost was competing. Unfortunately it went the way of the freak show, much like MMA is doing now, with bizarre match-ups like Jose Cansenco vs Hong Man Choi.

No idea why Maynard is still fighting. He got mauled in the guard that first round. A guy his age shouldnt be taking strikes to the head like that. Granted he made a brief come back in the second.... but still....
