Has he (as an undisputed champion at CW) automaticaly possibility to become mandatory if he moves up at HW ?
This is a serious question, I really don't know a lot about this issue.
I don’t see how the IBF, WBO & WBA can strip fighters of their mandatory status, which guarantees multi-million dollar pay cheques, without being sued.
Let’s pretend that you’re Kubrat Pulev and you’ve already missed out on a shot against AJ due to injury, had to engage in another final eliminator to regain your mandatory challenger status, only to end up seeing your multi-million dollar payday to be stolen from a fighter like Oleksandr Usyk who has never once competed as a heavyweight?
You’d be pretty angry if you were the Bulgarian and probably would sue the IBF for every penny they had!
Matchroom could theoretically pay step-aside money to one of AJ’s mandatories, but the cost would be too unrealistically high to explore this option.
