No doubt. It does nothing for a fighter to be 'protected,' as you say. All it does is make them completely not ready when they finally enter the ring against a top fighter. With risk comes reward.
With his lack of discipline, and being at least 40 pounds overweight Miller was never gonna be ready for the Top guys anyway. He has the talent it would appear, but not the discipline. When the going gets tough he'll get tired, and get outworked.

I'm not even sure he'd beat a guy like Dillian Whyte let alone the top names of the division.

He'll be a contender with a nice, shiny undefeated record for one of the Big 3 to go over on at some point though I guess. Since he's signed with Hearn it'll almost certainly be Joshua his shot comes against which means he'll at least make top dollar to get his ass kicked which I guess is the next best thing for you if you're not gonna put the work in to actually win when you get to the top.

This show with “four world title fights” is looking shabbier by the minute. WBA interim belt lol!

Who is Linares expected to face on this card? Hooker?

He should now be fighting meaningful opponents i.e. better than Washington, Wach or Duhaupas. People like Whyte, Ortiz, Pulev, Parker, Povetkin. Pointless him fighting the Dinus of this world and I suspect the Bryans and the Charrs too.
I don't expect him to step up against those guys unless it's against AJ as he's only in it for the money. But if he's only going to fight bums over the next 6-12 months before AJ I will be happy enough if it it is Bryan, Oquendo/Charr then face AJ to unify the WBA belts.

Also, i'm not sure that he beats any of those guys you mentioned but he's at least at the lower end of that category rather than the level of his current opposition.
I think his bulk, work rate and stamina would make him too much for the old guard, maybe even Wilder too. His chin hasn't been really tested but judging from that neck, I'd imagine only Wilder and Joshua are likely to hurt him.

Of course I could be hopelessly overestimating his ability, I just wish he'd give us a chance to find out. He doesn't talk like he lacks confidence ant his trash-talk doesn't sound like empty bluster either so if he has self-belief and mental strength then Why TF is he fart-arsing about chasing the WBA also-ran title?
