Not even close. Boxing has more belts than any other combat sport by a wide margin. Hell there's probably more belts in Boxing than there is in ALL of Professional Wrestling.
Makes me wonder how far the organizations can go? What if the WBC, IBF, and WBO started following the WBA by making a regular, super, and interim title? Then you would have 12 world titles per division. At what point would boxing websites, media, promoters, and fans stop recognizing these belts?
I have no idea why they already haven't.

4 Champions per division is already 3 too many as is.

The sanctioning bodies are a joke tail trying to wag some fattened dogs.

I think it's time more boxers followed Mayweather's lead in petitioning their own fans to see who they want to see them fight next. Totally boring fighter, but light years ahead of his peers until the coming of Canelo.

Championship Boxing is now often just a purely money making venture with (occasional) entertainment thrown in. But it has little or no sporting relevance and umpteen meaningless belts.

So why not just give the fans, especially the casuals, the fights they want?

As I understand it, it's not actually a 'new' belt but a renaming of the WBO Trans-Oceanic title:

Never heard of the Trans-Oceanic belt! Presumably it was previously meant for the Oceanic region and now it’s just a synonym of world...

the first WBO Global champion is Sebastian Formella http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/683189

i suppose this belt is meant to be like WBA Regular. just another belt for German and other fake ''champs''.

It's for pre-op antipodean boxers to help raise funds for the full operation, then they can go for the Caitlyn Belt and be described as "so brave"

It doesn't surprise me anymore.

The WBA started the ball rolling when they split the World and Super world title then decided to have an Interim title floating around while the other were being defended, the WBC were just as bad when they've created a Diamond championship for the WBSS and started making commemorative belts for various big fights.

The WBO & WBA having an Interim champion while also having defending world champions, to me, makes no sense and diminishes their word title to a ridiculous level.

I'm still waiting for the IBF to come out with their own ridiculous alternative world title. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if they tried like the professional wrestling world of WWE and made a IBF Universal championship just to give someone else a chance to call themselves a champion.

As I read the WBO Global title is the newest regional belt, they renamed the WBO Trans-Oceanic title.
That's all, so to me it's no world title, cause it doesn't represent the whole world, it only represents a region.

I always thought the world “global” was synonymous with the scope of something encompassing the “whole world” or something being “worldwide”, because the plant earth is globe-shaped, like a round ball.

According to the WBO, it seems I was wrong.

Have the WBO done this to simply remove the word “trans” from being affiliated with their organisation, in order to avoid receiving excessively harsh criticism from the overly-sensitive SJW and LGBTQ+ (aka LGBTQIA+ or LGBTTQQIAAP) communities?

We are obviously must be.

We've been falling for this kind of marketing strategy when its comes to music and magazine publishing for decades. Remaster, reissue, repackage, variant covers etc. Many items sold now can have a variant, a special edition model of some kind. The iPhone 6 had so many variants, each calculated to the umpteenth point in potential market share no doubt.

This nonsense will inevitably continue until they manage to pass the saturation point and piss everyone off. Today's mantra seems to be, to paraphrase comedian Frankie Boyle, "Work, consume and die'. And as long as there are untold casuals out there to be ripped off we're nowhere near saturation point.

Well, they are paperbelts for a reason, cause it brings in more paper to everyone.

And I'm only going with who is king of the hill more on the belts.

World, Global, Intercontinental... in fact those words mean the same but for some reasons boxing organization needs to make belts with all of these names.

They could make some new weight division championship belts too while they're at it - Super-duper middleweight, light middleweight, heavy middleweight, extra heavy middleweight, middle middleweight...Separate them by one pound, or maybe 1/2 pound, or 4 ounces...

Are these numerous ABC governing bodies the single biggest issue for the sport?

Without all these belts and differing rankings, there wouldn't be so much picking and choosing of opponents by cautious Promoters, and all the knock on effect that it brings (TV deals etc).
