Mayorga is a great fighter because he beat Vernon Forrest, who beat Mosley, who beat De La Hoya, so Mayorga is a better fighter than De La Hoya.
Mayorga has the style to beat Vernon Forrest every time they meet. Marlin Starling has the right style to beat Loyd Hunnigan every time they meet. Emanuel Steward said Collazos style would be the toughest one for Hatton, really tough fight. Lets give him the chance to fight a couple more times before we seel his stock. De La Hoya would never give Sweet Pea a rematch after a tough win there. Is De La Hoya a bad fighter? He would always have a tough time with sweet pea.

If he insists on staying welterweight, he should hold onto the belt and take the Urkal fight. It would be a win for good money by European standards and give Hatton more time to develop into a natural 148lb fighter.

is that why he gets so overweight between fights?!? i never followed him close & had no idea why he ballons so much between fights...but it sounds like a lack of discipline that carried over to his performance in the ring vs collazo!!

well, to be fair, what proper welter has mayweather ever faced? for that matter, how many non-shot light welters... maybe ricky's near miss should make us wonder whether mayweather, a peak 130, could fend on a monster like margarito for 12 rds, amazing skills or no. hatton struggled for a couple of rds before outclassing and wiping out maussa. some bad early rds led to a complete performance - I mean last night, that was a nerve shredding type of struggle. he should definitely move down to light welter, as at that weight he can get away with more, and stay away from awkward southpaws with good right hooks
Can you see Ricky beating Judau like Mayweather did?... I can't....

ummm... you cant say that because you dont know how good i think he is! dont put opinions in my mouth (if thats possible) i never thought collazo would be out in 5 or 6, it was obvious to me it would be a difficulty (understatement of the year) to use his style on a strong welter, with polished skills.
Collazo is hardly Mayweather is he?...
wouldn't mayweather have a tough time with Collazo? does anyone care to ask this? i doubt it would be a walkover in the nature of Mitchell & Corley. Collazo looks better than Judah, who gave Mayweather something to think about for a while

look at de la hoya V Castillejo and then against Vargas/Mayorga for example..
Hatton looked very one dimensional against Collazo. I think he needs to forget fighting at 147, Collazo isn't even a puncher and he had Ricky in very bad shape in the last round. Ricky's own punches aside from the flash knockdown, had little effect on Collazo, who stood and traded with Hatton at will, something nobody has really done with such impugnity at 140 and survived.
Yes it was Hatton's first fight at the weight, but that's two fights now where he's looked raggedand hittable and not terribly effective.
Hatton's best performance was against Tackie, where he showed an excellent jab, and good straight punching. That's what he needed to do against Collazo, close the gap quickly, and rapid fire punched from up close.
Fortunately for Ricky, Maussa wasn't very good, but he did the same in this fight, and came close to coming unstuck. Hatton's footwork was very poor in this bout, he didn't show any angles at all just came blazing in firing with both hands, which is why he was caught so often.
Hatton needs to go back to being the quicksilver combination body puncher or work behind the jab and get straight shots off, not wade in behind big hooks.
