prospect from english-speaking countries are usually overrated, those from other countries are usually underrated.
Nah. Have to disagree with you there, Daggie me old mate.
Folk on the forum have a diverse view of boxers from all over the world, that's one of the things I like about it. Boxer prospects coming up from the Eastern block countries, Japan, Mexico, and south east Asia often get a good word on here. Guys who watch a lot of the amateur boxing at the Euro/world/Olympic and commonwealth games often say good things about the ones who have success at those events turning pro, regardless of what countries they come from, and what language they speak. We speak the language of boxing
Well, maybe i'm exaggerating because you are surely right with the fact that amateur credentials help East Euro fighters get hype but it's just because fighters from other countries do not have good credentials at all (USA doesn't exist in amateur boxing, Cubans can't turn to pro boxing, from the western countries only UK does well).. but the situation is different when you compare for example USA prospect with average/bad amateurs credentials vs East Euro prospect with average/bad amateurs credentials.
And as i said in other topic, Lucas Browne was (and still is) seen by some as a good fighter and legit contender, a lot of people had him in top 20, some even in top 15 or 10, in fact he is old, he has uninspiring record, he is a former PEDs user, imagine what would people say and think about 39 years old Lithuanian called Zigmantas Matulevicius, Hungarian Balazs Gyurcso or Polish Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz with the same record as Browne? my guess is a ''unknown 60 years old euro bum beater & juicer that was in a close fight vs another euro bum beater Rudenko and beat ancient and of course overrated Chagaev only because he was juicing''.
Or another example, even after Jacobs vs Sulecki a lot of people still seen potential Andrade vs Sulecki match up as not good or even one-sided and probably most of people a week ago seen Charlo as a fighter much better than Sulęcki. Of course i was saying before that it would be a close match-up and i doubt that Charlo is actually better same as i knew that Sulęcki will be a threat for Jacobs. I also think that if the fighter that fought Jacobs (Maciej Sulęcki) was called Mark Johnson instead and was American, it would be called a decent match-up and a test for both prospect Johnson and Jacobs.
But i have no problem with that, it's quite normal, I understand it that people hype more the fighters that they're more familiar with (there are very few, even on here, really hardcore fans that watch fights around the world, even those meaningless, so most of people are basing in most of cases on resume only and they seem to favour the fighter that they know more than the unknown guy) but being more hyped =/= better fighter. Some few people even seem like they think that english native speakers are most likely better fighters than others (maybe with the exception of Mexican/Hispanic fighters especially in the lower weights, but that's probably most of them are USA-based).
