Mayweather would have been 1/5 at the bookies at the most if those fights were made. Would you agree with that?

This argument always amuses me. 'He didn't need to fight his best opponents because he would have beaten them easily anyway!'

So why fight the easy guys if you can beat the most dangerous guys out there?

He didn't outpoint Cotto 'easily' even after Pacman had beaten him half to death, but he would have beaten him easily when he was undefeated? Lol. Thank god Sugar Ray didn't share Floyd's, or your, attitude.

Floyd haters really do reach
People with no arguments toss out the "hater" term and sheepishly scuttle away from debates.

Now the children have cleared out, can anyone tell me how volume guys like Paul Williams and Tony Margarito could have been easily beaten by Floyd, given the nightmares Castillo and Maidana gave him, both of whom are half the freaking size of the aforementioned ogres?

You're arguing that mayweather would have lost to margarito, William's, cotto and mosley when he would have been a heavy favourite at the bookies to beat them all and you would be in the minority picking any of them to beat him. At least come up with a good fighter like "he avoided GGG". That would have been an even enough fight at the bookies and public opinion

Regardless of Sky's spin, Roger Mayweather's pre-fight remark that Hatton was 'a jumped up clubfighter' gives a truer indication of how threatening Team Mayweather thought their handpicked opponent was.
What? So the undisputed light welter champion in his prime years age wise was handpicked cos Roger Mayweather was confident of victory... .better say that about practically every fighter where the favourite won.

Really ridiculous statement sorry. Hamed/Ingle were pretty dismissive of all their opponents including Barrera.....all hand picked?

As would Paul Williams. Mosley was deferred till he was 40 and Cotto only after Margaratio and Pacman had knocked seven bells out of him, and still Floyd only squeaked past him.

It's such a monumentally stupid argument you are making. 'The guy who says he's the best in the world can avoid the best opponents in the world because he would have beaten him anyway.' Why not prove it given that, you know, this is boxing and it's meant to be the best versus the best, not the the best versus the weight handicapped and the aged and senile?

It must really have bothered you when he KO'd Hatton and easily beat Canelo and Pacquiao

Odd how you associate reason and facts with childishness. What exactly is hateful about pointing out that Floyd avoided some of his best challengers, and only boxed others once they were old and had lost already? I couldn't give less of a sh%t about Hatton and co, but if I did it wouldn't alter the facts of Floyd's cynical career choice.

As someone who clearly idolises the man, it must really bother you that you can't point to Mayweather's answer to, say, Leonard's wins over Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler, because for whatever reason he preferred to avoid real challenges.

De La Hoya was basically semi-retired when Mayweather fought him, his only fight in the nearly 3 years following the Hopkins loss was a gimme over Mayorga who was picked only because he was pants and somehow held a belt.

Lots saying on social media that Floyds latest ‘fight’ was fake. But I think it just highlights how staged his contest with McGregir was.

Floyd was in no mood to put a show on against the little Japanese kickboxer. How he made a point pre fight about not needing to warm up before entering the ring - how he mocked his opponent - and how he basically just walked him down.

I'd have more respect for you if you could show some balls and pick one of those guys to beat Mayweather at that time. We can then discuss that particular fight. Like I said, im not going to criticize someone for not fighting a guy who many believe he would have beaten. It's a different story with something like Hatton Witter. Are you also criticising Lewis for not fighting John Ruiz? Wake me up when you pick one of those guys to beat Mayweather. I just cannot understand why there is no "happy medium" when it comes to Floyd.

For me - Had Floyd faced and beat Margarito, Williams and a "prime" Mosley (for me Shane was already passed his prime when Floyd was at 147 and was coming off his best win at the weight when they actually fought).... then these "hand picked" fighters like "Hatton", "DLH", "Baldomir", "Judah" etc would have been mentioned as "why didn't he fight these guys".

As I said no fighters record is perfect. Baldomir, whether you like it or not, was generally considered the #1 Welterweight at the time and Judah was before him. Margarito wasn't long coming from losses to Daniel Santos and again - had Floyd fought Margarito people would have noted this.

Williams - had just lost to Carlos Quintana

Mosley - his last meaningful Welterweight win was in 2001 (aside from an interim World title win vs Collazo - which Hatton also did), so again not sure how he could have conceivably fought Mayweather prime for prime at 147. Floyd was considered a small Lightweight in 2001. Indeed Margarito was his best win since his prime years and Floyd fought him following a career renaissance.

Cotto - okay fair call, but again Cotto did plenty after they fought to show he was still quite a player when they actually fought.

All good fighters, would have loved to have seen them all vs Mayweather yet - but none of them undisputedly #1 in the division and none of them unequivocally better than who Mayweather actually fought - Hatton, DLH, Baldomir, Judah, JMM, Mosley mark 2010.

Very very different fighters. Alvarez has a shorter reach than Floyd despite being slightly taller.

I’d have loved to have seen it at 147, significantly taller, significant seven inch reach advantage. I just think he had tools that would have made it very tough for Floyd, good chin, good stamina, good skills.

I would have loved to seen what Mayweather did with that.

How on earth is Lennox Lewis not fighting undeserving, unthreatening John Ruiz comparable to Mayweather not fighting the deserving, threatening Paul Williams, Miguel Cotto, Tony Margarito, Shane Mosley and Manny Pac? He clubs dummy Hatton, retires, lets them all duke it out for 2 years and then comes back to fight a handicapped Marquez. You've really twisted yourself into some logic knots trying to explain away Floyd's ultra pedestrian career choices. Unfortunately for Floyd (and you) these doubts will follow him forever because he chose not to fight his best opponents in their primes (or in some cases at all). Sorry.
