Thanks for reminding me. Bill Douglas (Buster's Dad) upset light heavyweight prospect Pedro Soto.

Quirino Garcia is an interesting fighter. He went 0-18 at the start of his career and ended with a 40-28-4 record, yet had wins over Jorge Vaca, Terrence Alli, Meldrick Taylor, Simon Brown and Frankie Randall.

Tiger Jones vs Ray Robinson.....
Re: Fights journeymen were not supposed to win.
Johnson vs Tarver/Jones/Woods
Re: Fights journeymen were not supposed to win.
Who was that bloke who twice beat Terry Norris by DQ?
Re: Fights journeymen were not supposed to win.
Also worth mentioning Toks Owoh losing to Glen Johnson... perception changes over time and Johnson obviously went on to establish himself firmly back in world class, but prior to the Owoh fight he was perceived as sliding towards journeyman status, having lost his four previous bouts, including to the aforementioned Sheikha. Though to be fair, given the level those losses were at, gatekeeper could be a more appropriate phrase than journeyman.

An obvious one that no one has mentioned yet, Steve Robinson. He was 13-9-1 when he got a surprise shot at the WBO world title with two days notice after the original challenger failed an AIDS test. Robinson won the title, went on to make seven defences and beat some very good fighters. Remarkable story.
