He knows rossy, I think he was a college football player. I think both of us assumed you meant casual ticket buyers.
Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
Thanks for the clarification. No not casuals. Guys who are on this site, and me in particular, as I planned on going to the show. I'm don't profess myself to be a hardcore fan, as I have tendencies more towards the HW division and the old guys from when I was a kid and after. To be frank, I find young fighters who look somewhat decent, and I'll follow them until they show that they suck. That's how I knew of Stacey Frazier. He was an opponent for a couple of them, including Damian Wills who I followed for a little bit. I assume if I know of a fighter, that everyone must, as I don't give myself credit for being much of an expert. I know what I know and come here to share and learn more.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 19:37 He knows rossy, I think he was a college football player. Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
I know it's all arguing over semantics, but being "known" typically means people who are not even necessarily fans of the sport know who you are. Wilder is barely "known" in the States, and that's with a relatively aggressive media campaign to get him on podcasts and talk shows. No one in this thread is "known" in the states, and that includes Miller.
In my opinion you've got to be a pretty hard core boxing fan to know who Rossy or Flores are, and you've got to be in the 1% to know who Stacy Frazier or Trevor Bryan are. Obviously a place like boxrec will be a home for many of those kinds of fans.

Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
"Casual Fan" was a new descriptor for me as it was unknown to me until I joined this site. I can see the confusion. I'm not in the 1%, but I knew of both Frazier and Bryan via other fighters I've followed. I need some term definitions in my back pocket.punchoutsb wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 19:47 I know it's all arguing over semantics, but being "known" typically means people who are not even necessarily fans of the sport know who you are. Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
I don't even like the description casual fan. It's really just the fans that make up the majority of viewership and ticket buying but they aren't nerds like us. Back in the 80's and 90's my friends loved boxing but they still would die laughing when they'd randomly pick a year and month in the almanac and I'd say the wba flyweight champ was either Peter mathebula or tae-shik Kim.
Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
Uh, I know who Derrek Rossy is. He's not a mystery. I've seen him tons of times, anyone who is a hardcore fan knows him since he's fought several top fighters, off the top of my head: Pulev, Stiverne, Glazkov, Chambers, and Povetkin. I don't want to go to BoxRec to confirm, so if he didn't fight one or two I'm not arguing that.oogiebe wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 19:35Go look at Rossy's resume. He was from a town near mine and fought a load of names. You just don't know him I guess. Get over it.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 19:17You're completely mistaken here. Bryan has no name whatsoever. Flores is probably the most "popular" guy on that list, and I don't think many people know Flores.
Rossy and Frazier aren't known in the States. You may as well say Derrick Findley is known in the States.
The thing is, though, no one outside of hardcores cares about Derrek Rossy. He can probably go back to that town near yours and I have doubts anyone would know him besides you.
As you said, I'm just not pompous enough to say that everyone knows Rossy just because I know him... or he fights near me. We're talking about getting a crowd to MSG, ffs. I don't think someone that beat Derrek Rossy would have such a substantial name to even sell 2 tickets there (outside of immediate family)

LMAO! That's just sick! You have the 'sickness' of boxing! too funny!Onetimeonly wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 20:00 I don't even like the description casual fan. Yeah, it's all been gone through on this thread already. Thanks for the clarification anyway.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 20:04Uh, I know who Derrek Rossy is. He's not a mystery. Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
Sounds like their original opponent fell through (Bryan) so they are taking on someone else. Don't let your dislike for Miller make you forget the fact that this is another failure by Hearn. They should have had someone lined up a long time ago.

Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
It's not a failure, Miller wasn't stepping up anyway. Bryan probably priced himself out when his only value was a secondary belt for Miller to put on his shoulder to promote a fight with aj. Not that I think Miller would be guaranteed to beat him.
Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
lol he makes kownacki look trim
Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
No he wasn't stepping up, but now he's stepping down...way down probably. It's just too bad, that's all.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 20:11 It's not a failure, Miller wasn't stepping up anyway. yep, Miller Lite indeed!dagilechia wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 20:17Yes he is a monster...he outweights Wilder by almost 110lbs lol

Agreed. He made Kownacki look like a LHW. I thought it was just some unknown LHW or something until I looked closer then freaked out that it was Kownacki.dagilechia wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 20:17Yes he is a monster...he outweights Wilder by almost 110lbs lol

I liked his chances against Charr.
Re: Miller Camp Finally confirms they have an opponent
Has the opponent really not been announced yet? Here's a hint, he's undefeated!
