that happened with me and Caleb Plant. I wasn't really interested until I read his story. Gave the fight more meaning. IDK how this is a title fight.caldo2025 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:04I read some stuff this week from Thurman. He’s a good dude. He definitely comes off like a dick in interviews on tv though. So this is a title fight? How in the heck? I don’t get boxingoogiebe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:02You weren't excited earlier in the thread. What changed?caldo2025 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:00 I’m pretty excited for this fight. I like Thurman and this injury spell was horrible timing as it robbed us from a couple of possible super matchups.
But Thurman did the right thing. He vacated his belt so as to not tie up a hot division. He should be credited for doing that. Thurman, Crawford, Spence Jr and honestly, Manny too. If these guys start fighting each other, it could be the greatest divisional battles since the 80’s.

Keith Thurman and Josesito Lopez weighed in exactly the same, at 146½ pounds.

was that Winky Wright at the weigh in in the background? I liked that guy in his active years

I had Thurman winning every round but 7th, where he was whoopped for two minutes and a half. Good return for One Time as for crispness and feet movement but risked it with Lopez straight rights

I thought Thurman did OK considering he'd been out for a while with injuries.
He looked very sharp in the first half.
He did wilt in the second half and looked to be in trouble at one point, but he showed heart, guile and rode out the storm well.
I thought he might have injured himself at one point, when he went to throw a Left uppercut and suddenly stopped, then his punch output decreased, but he didn't mention it after the fight.

Thurman looked good in the first 3 rounds with a nice KD. I thought Lopez edged the 4th, the 6th and then dominated the 7th. The 8th through the 12th was a scratch and sniff affair between them, but you could see Thurman faded in the second half.
That was a tough comeback fight for Thurman, he took alot of clean shots. Time will tell how much punishment he took because your body doesn't react the same to that type of punishment after such a long layoff.

First thoughts: This was exactly the fight Thurman needed after a long layoff. He showed power; he showed speed; he survived a huge scare; he showed rust. Lopez should get a bonus for his performance and providing Thurman 12 tough rounds. I'd bet Thurman will be much better in his next fight. BTW: The judging? Seriously?

How can three expert judges see the same fight so differently?

Undoubtedly.

Did anyone score the round in which Thurman was almost stopped 10-8?
Re: Keith Thurman vs. Josesito López - January 26, 2019
I do too, which is exactly why I asked. I often go by the premise you can score a round 10-8 with no KD if you think this thought: This fight is about to be stopped.

Its not filled up yet but if 1 fighter ends up in the picture eventually, it makes it more interesting. I saw Jameel McCline on one of these when he was like 4-0.
But yeah, the "name fighters" rarely fight each other on these cards.
Why not have Teper fight Malik Scott instead of those guys fighting someone who is like 10-12?
Re: Keith Thurman vs. Josesito López - January 26, 2019
Let's see who they are fighting. Maybe they'll sneak a prospect in one of those.Tony1244 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2019, 10:45Its not filled up yet but if 1 fighter ends up in the picture eventually, it makes it more interesting. Lopez has said had it been him in the 7th taking the punishment, the fight would likely have been stopped.
