Decent card this. The main event is intriguing. In stopping Kovalev in the first fight Alvarez showed a killer instinct that he hadn't previously displayed against the likes of Pascal and Chilemba. Although they are 2 tough men. Kovalev showed the vulnerability that was apparent from the Ward rematch.

Looking forward to seeing Commey hopefully win a world title. He's been unlucky to lose close decisions in his 2 highest profile fights (Easter and Shafikov). This one should be much more winnable for him.

Interested to see how Teofimo Lopez looks in another bit of a step up. Top Rank are the best around at developing young fighters so I'm expecting another good performance.

Oscar Valdez on the card as well. Bit of a soft defence. In with a light puncher which makes me wonder if his team still have reservations about his jaw after breaking it against Quigg. He should deal with this Italian quickly.

The Kov/Alvarez looks like it’s gonna be a late one. Program starts at 2.30am..

I’m guessing half 4 - 5

Sergey Kovalev attempts to keep his career alive when he challenges Eleider ‘Storm’ Alvarez for his old WBO World Light-Heavyweight Championship in a rematch on Saturday 2nd February, live on allegedly.

‘Krusher’ Kovalev, 35, was ahead on all three judges’ cards when the Montreal based Colombian rallied and knocked him out in the seventh round.

He is promising revenge when they meet in Frisco, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility.

Andre Ward will be in Sergey Kovalev’s line of sight Saturday night.

Ward will be as close to the ring for Kovalev’s immediate rematch with Eleider Alvarez as possible without actually standing in it. BS.com has learned Ward will move from his usual position during ESPN telecasts – at an elevated desk, away from the ring – to ringside to call the Alvarez-Kovalev fight from ringside.

Ward will join Joe Tessitore, ESPN’s blow-by-blow announcer, and fellow former champion Timothy Bradley to provide expert analysis of the second bout between Alvarez and Kovalev. Essentially, Ward will switch seats with regular ESPN commentator Mark Kriegel for the Alvarez-Kovalev rematch to make best use of Ward’s personal experience with Kovalev.

kov dominated, the two 8-4 cards were generous to alvarez, 119-110 for me

You're right. I had it almost the same. 118-110 and it's a limit. Alvarez was outclassed.

Credit to Kovalev for reversing the result, though it seems that Alvarez suffered the puncher's curse and was looking for one shot all night. Not sure Krusher will hold onto his belt for long, but it's good to have him back.

He wants to unify now. He hasn’t had an actual unification fight since he unified against Hopkins. Obviously Stevenson has the remaining belt and unfortunately, they never fought.

He’d likely beat Beterbiev, Gvozdyk might be too much for him. Unfortunately, Bivol has signed with DAZN.

I thought Kovalev was outstanding, 119-109 for me, I gave Alvarez the 11th that was it, strange performance from Alvarez he looked gunshy which was strange as I thought there was a chance Kovalev could fight scared and Alvarez might stop him even earlier this time around but he was awful, his best asset was blocking or at least partially blocking a lot of Kovalev's work especially early doors but his punch output was woeful, not really sure what his tactics were

Kovalev on the other hand as mentioned during the fight got back to basics, controlled ring centre from the opening bell, established the jab, either coming over with the right or over with the hook and fought at a high pace, clever fight and truth be told he was in total control for the whole fight, infact it looked pretty easy in there for him, feeble showing from Alvarez but Kovalev showing he's not done yet by a long shot

I had it a complete shutout.

Alvarez was woeful. He’s not even a puncher. Basically threw no punches.

Credit to Buddy. The game plan to get Kovalev on his toes worked.

Also credit to Kovalev. Boxing to instructions is such an undervalued trait.
Kovalev didn’t seem the type of guy to change his style for a trainer.
Loved Kovalev’s interview after. Basically said Buddy wanted him to Box like a amateur.

lol you were all giddy when he lost , going on about him being the most overrrated/hyped fighter in years, but your glad to have him now? so you can go all high and mighty and go on on about how all the idiots overrated him when he loses again? 'omg ppl like this exciting fighter! i must therefore sh!t on him because im a negative cunnt who likes to think hes special!!'

btw bruh, as far as overrated, facts stand, loads picked hop to beat him (including a major us media poll) and he was underdog both ward fights with many saying hed barely win a round, and ppl were even picking ggg to beat him, he was called a limited crude slugger for years and was never rated as high as you want to think

He always had those skills. Before he even fought cleverly he used to box circles around heavyweights. I'm a big fan, but he was more vulnerable than people are making out. Alvarez did shit, great bounce back but it was assisted. There were moments early where kovalev frantically looked at the ref and Alvarez helped build his confidence by doing nothing. Interesting because I think he needs to be aggressive in any bigger fights against the other champs.

Kovalev pretty much controlled the bout from start to finish. With Buddy McGirt in his corner he may prolong his career as the knockout or stoppage won't be the number 1 priority anymore. That said, if a WBSS was organised for the light heavyweight division (please god) the level of competition could spell the end....Beterbiev, Bivol and the guy who stopped Stevenson.

Was pleased to see kovalev win,I had written him off to tell the truth & expected Alvarez to get him beat quicker :maybe:, he still didn't fight like the Krusher of old, but he fought a very smart fight & I was happy to see him get the win as I have always liked kovalev :TU:
