Re: Joe Joyce vs. Bermane Stiverne - 23 February 2019
oh god, just checked out the photos. and stiverne actually used to have a decent shape, so he must not care anymore.
in fact i cant see any evidence that stiverne has been serious since the First Wilder fight 4 years ago!
what is the point in picking on someone like this? i thought joyce was going to fight ortiz.

Stiverne knows he's out of shape and his best bet is to land a haymaker early.
Joyce always starts at high pace.
This should be fun round or two..

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Bermane Stiverne - 23 February 2019
Good call by the ref to stop it there, Stiverne was too brave for his own good and might have to made it a few rounds further, I admire his toughness but really he was just a human punchbag although he was dangerous with the occasional haymaker. a couple of those right hands which nailed Joyce clean in the 1st would've shook some heavyweights, Joyce chin stood up well, he did look a bit plodding in there and he's slow, he throws tired looking punches but his engine was incredible again, he just never stops coming forward and pushing out the punches, good solid jab, right crosses, the hooks, bodyshots whatever he just keeps throwing
It looked like he might not have the power to KO Stiverne but the right hand he put him down with was a cracker and Stiverne was unravelling when it was stopped
Plenty flaws in Joyce but I like him, he's a bit different

stiverne was a physical disgrace...he came to cash his cheque
joyce was a bit too heavy for him, he was also wooden.

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Bermane Stiverne - 23 February 2019
The only thing that impressed me was when Stiverne landed a real flush overhand right in round one that seemed to do nothing to Joyce. Stiverne is old and fat and doesn't pack a very good punch anymore, but that was a hard shot that Joyce didn't even blink on. The rest...was poo...

Groves said something interesting about Joyce: about how he only throws arm punches. It made me think of Vitali Klitschko:
“he throws arm punches, but with power”
I don’t think Joyce will beat the big 3 but I think he’ll be top 5 by 2020 and will give a good account of himself. I’m standing by my prediction that he’s the real deal.

He's not going to beat the top guys. I don't think he hits hard enough for a start, but worse than that is that he is wide open.
He did take one big humdinger really well tonight but Imagine someone like Whyte laying left hooks on him time after time.
Stiverne was a mobile punch bag.

I'll bet with you! I'll bet that Joyce remains unbeaten until he fights Wilder/AJ/Fury. The loser mails the winner a case of beer. I like that! Maybe with a photo of the loser doing this guy
I err on the side of Joyce not getting that far, but he might not need to if the top guys come apart somewhat and fall back. So long as Joyce holds onto his fitness (an unknown at his age), he'll be poised to take advantage of any declining heavyweight betters. I fancy he'd beat Hughie by stopping him from coasting.

Joyce and Usyk will be the big opponents next year for the main lads. The others: Dubois, Yoka, Gorman, all that lot, are getting beat. Hrgovic and Ajagba I'm still reserving judgement on. And Dillian Whyte is so overrated it's unbelievable.
If I'm wrong I'll hold my hands up and admit it.

Just not a real betting man. I'm very confident in my pick. Joyce will get exposed once he faces decent opposition. Just got home, and got to watch this fight. Very good showing by Joyce. He's fun as hell to watch. Showed a good chin too as Stiverne landed some real solid rights in the 1st, but Joyce took 'em well. I definitely look forward to seeing a lot more of Joyce. You gotta figure his flaws will catch up to him against the Elite guys, but win or lose he'll be fun to watch almost always I'd imagine given the way he fights. I'm a fan.
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Bermane Stiverne - 23 February 2019
You think he's fun to watch? He's like "the Mummy." Painfully slow. Slo-mo-Joe! I agree Stiverne hit him a really good right in the first round flush, and Joyce walked right through it. Highlight of the fight.gilgamesh wrote: ↑23 Feb 2019, 21:34 Just got home, and got to watch this fight. Very good showing by Joyce. He's fun as hell to watch. Fun as hell to watch. I don't care that he lacks speed. He's aggressive, and steadily on the attack with big shots in combination, on top of that he has a leaky defense, and gets caught with heavy shots himself. What's not to like?oogiebe wrote: ↑23 Feb 2019, 21:46You think he's fun to watch? He's like "the Mummy." Painfully slow. Slo-mo-Joe! You're almost guaranteed to see a knockout or an action fight at the very least when you watch him.
