Well that's a slippery slope of judgment. However, there are plenty of other guys that weren't. You can certainly find 4 that weren't.
I Appreciate it when guys that didn't make crybaby excises after losing. Not talking about about complaining about losing a close decision. Talking about the dog ate my homework excuses.
Anyway, I didn't like the guys I knew were terrible human beings regardless of how good they are. Crazy notion I guess.

I think a lot of rays behavior stemmed from his shame over his homosexual desires. Surely beating your wife is more egregious than crybaby excuses? Of course ray has them too.

Kid Gavilan
Sugar Ray Robinson
Jimmy Ellis

lol i remember his story, ray was in a car with another guy and just so happened by freak accident to lean forward in a way that resulted in his mouth being around the guys cock (that because of another freak accident was already out of the guys pants)Onetimeonly wrote: ↑28 Feb 2019, 11:55 I think a lot of rays behavior stemmed from his shame over his homosexual desires. He hit his wife one time in a fit of anger. Obviously, inexcusable, but it's not like he was a chronic wife beater. None of these guys are angels. You seriously don't think Duran ever did any thing like that? Duran was borderline psychotic.
Who would you leave to babysit your kid, Duran or Leonard?
Re: Your personal Mount Rushmore of favorite fighters?
I love Jack Johnson and Ali. But without Tom Johnson and Broughton, there's a good chance we wouldn't even have the sport of boxing.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑27 Feb 2019, 16:49Going strictly by importance, would probably go with:

You're the one that brought up personal behavior, not me. I seriously doubt it only happened once. I don't judge people I don't know. That's your cup of tea. As far as babysitting, definitely Duran. Robinson makes them both look like saints.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑28 Feb 2019, 16:43Your first part isn't worth responding to.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑28 Feb 2019, 11:55 I think a lot of rays behavior stemmed from his shame over his homosexual desires. Re: Your personal Mount Rushmore of favorite fighters?
It only makes sense to consider behavior when talking about your favorite fighters. If someone is awful person, then he should not be one of your favorite fighters.
We can only go by what we know. Duran showed time and time again why he was an awful person. You are spinning things in regard to Leonard. (Yes I have the book.) No idea why you are ripping Ray Robinson.

Re: Your personal Mount Rushmore of favorite fighters?
That's your measuring stick. For me, I separate in-ring from out of ring as best I can. I can have a favorite fighter who is not close to being my favorite person.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑01 Mar 2019, 12:22 It only makes sense to consider behavior when talking about your favorite fighters. Which I don't understand at all. You should keep it apart as far as your favorite fighters go. Someone that you know to be a terrible person should not be a favorite of yours. You can admire their ability. And you should keep out your personal feelings (good, bad or indifferent) towards a fighter when rating him. If they are a current fighter you shouldn't root for them. Past or present, they should not be one of your favorite fighters.
Re: Your personal Mount Rushmore of favorite fighters?
You can think; do; say all you want, but you can't tell others what we SHOULD or SHOULDN'T do or what we CAN or CAN'T do. That's really pathetic, and shows you are really full of yourself, or you have social dysfunction. No wonder you argue with so many people on the boards. This is about differences of opinions. Your opinion is yours and if someone disagrees, it doesn't make anyone right or wrong. Debate is fine. Imposing your beliefs is not.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑01 Mar 2019, 12:37 Which I don't understand at all. You should keep it apart as far as your favorite fighters go. Re: Your personal Mount Rushmore of favorite fighters?
Check out the hbo doc on Robinson. His wife pretty much had to escape him. I don't know either, but I've read or seen nothing to indicate Leonard was a better person than Duran. Really isn't relevant to the thread to me, so I'll just leave it at that.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑01 Mar 2019, 12:22 It only makes sense to consider behavior when talking about your favorite fighters. Re: Your personal Mount Rushmore of favorite fighters?
Settle down. I'm just saying I don't understand why a fighter would someone's favorite if they know that the fighter is not a good person. That's illogical. Maybe they admire their ability or their fighting style. That makes sense. But to say someone is one of your favorites who you know is not a good person is bizarre.oogiebe wrote: ↑01 Mar 2019, 13:16You can think; do; say all you want, but you can't tell others what we SHOULD or SHOULDN'T do or what we CAN or CAN'T do. I argue with people so many people? Well that is what we pretty much all pretty. I also agree with people, sometimes you. I also don't comment on the majority of topics at all.
Re: Your personal Mount Rushmore of favorite fighters?
It's bizarre to you because you don't look at a fighter as a fighter only. Your selection criteria also includes the persona. Not how I do it. I have a favorite person list, as well as favorite fighter; baseball player; footballer; etc. Again, you have a different criteria. Doesn't make it wrong or right,, just different.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑01 Mar 2019, 15:09Settle down.
