There's much truth in that, no doubt but as hard, as tough, as brave, as relentless as the Rock was, there's no way he beats Frazier or Tyson prime for prime. Size matters too there's no getting away from it.SenorPipino wrote: ↑05 Mar 2019, 10:59 Marciano was the hardest hitting man on earth.
He would have swallowed and regurgitated cruiserweights.
As always, too much silly obsession with weight by modern fans. Talent, toughness. That's what counts.

I know that Stevenson had been defeated by Vysotsky twice, but, honestly I have never watched Vysotsky (I have read that injuries had destroyed his career). Stevenson has been something like semi-god for me, he had everything, literally everything - height, reach, power, chin, heart. It is very difficult to compare, but (regarding Cuban HWs) I think he had been a level above Solis, and two levels above Ortiz.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑05 Mar 2019, 10:18
Teofilo Stevenson always wanted to fight M. Ali but the Cuban government would not allow it. He was convinced that he could beat Ali. Stevenson fought the Russian heavy Igor Vysotsky twice. Vysotsky beat him both times. This is why the so called world champions in the US and UK before the 1990's were really only US-UK champions, not world champions. They never fought any eastern Europeans or Russians or Cubans. Cubans are still not allowed to turn pro, but there are many Cuban ex pats now.
The best heavy I ever saw was Vitali Klitschko. Rocky Marciano #2.

Hello, brother! There are brief shots of Vysotsky vs Stevenson on youtube... but i found something sensational i never knew about! Vysotsky fought M. Ali for a few rounds - and totally dominated him! See my new Igor Vysotsky thread on the boxing history board.

Well, not "LIVE" but on TV live.
Best heavyweight amateur: Felix Savon
Best heavyweight ( in my era ): Mike Tyson, in his prime.
Best one fight performance heavyweight: Buster Douglas vs. Mike Tyson
Best unfulfilled potential heavyweight ( could have been the best ): Ike Ibeabuchi
Best heavyweight jab: Larry Holmes
Best awkward to fight heavyweight: Vitali Klitschko
Best heavyweight chin: Oliver McCall ( maybe Ray Mercer ties him )
Best left hook: Tommy Morrison
Best left hook uppercut: Razor Ruddock
Best career comeback as heavyweight: George Foreman
Best heavyweight with most heart: Evander Holyfield

I like the fact he says he whatever TF he likes and doesn't give a hoot whether we all think he's been smoking the strong stuff or not. It's kind of refreshing.
It'd be boring if we were all harnessed to reality wouldn't it?

Reality is overrated. Besides...
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream...

Re: The best HW you have ever seen ?
You could make a case for that, certainly. Reality can be confusing - remind me: Am I an independent entity or one of your allegedly abundant alter-egos? ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

I seem to vaguely remember you from someplace. You must be one of my half forgotten alter egos. There are so many I can't keep track.
Native Australians believe that what we think is real is just a dream. At least that's what it said in the movie "The Third Wave".

Poe was a certified loon too.
So quoting his philosophy of reality hardly strengthens your cause.

I love Louis but even forgetting about size his slow footed style is terrible against either Klitschko he'd be destroyed by either brother
. If he was fleet footed maybe but he held his feet and fired off against guys 50 pounds heavier and good that's crazy.

Re: The best HW you have ever seen ?
I've seen nothing like Ali in 66/7 but sadly that was before my time.
He was so otherworldly good and ahead of his time that the contemporary opinion seemed to be that he was little more than a hype job.
Even the Beatles thought Liston would beat him and Sonny also got a place on the 1967 Sgt Pepper cover ahead of Ali who they actually met down in Miami?!
In my time, it has to be Mike Tyson. He was that fast and powerful that I actually started wondering whether he could have beaten a peak Ali.
Foreman and Vitali Klitschko were phenomenal too, just not as quick.
