Nobody works harder in the gym than Spence. Cliche as that may be, Ive heard it from several pros. I hate compubox, but I bet he's busier too. I love both these guys but Mikey is getting stopped and it might be early.

Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2019
Anybody detect any mainstream interest in this fight? Or is it strictly a big bout for hardcores?
I ask because Richard Schaeffer, whose new boxing company is co-promoting the fight, insists that PPV sales could easily top 1 million.
That seems like dreaming. Few fights these days come anywhere near that number.
Despite their talents, neither Spence or Garcia have the personal charisma to attract casual fans. And you need plenty of those to reach that million figure.
I think that it may exceed the Fury-Wilder fight which was in the neighborhood of 325,000. But probably not by much. Pacquiao-Broner did about 400,000 but they were bigger names than either Garcia or Spence.
And the price for PPV, $75 in the US, isn't going to help.
I understand that it will be televised free in the UK.

One of Tommy's 2 big high octane fights. I like to believe that if it wasn't for Hearns v Duran then Hearns v Hagler might have turned out differently. This new improved Hearns was something else.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 10:13At the weigh in Duran told Tommy he was going to kill him and hearns said you're going down in 2.SenorPipino wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 17:31Scared? No.Thomastearns wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 14:37 To get up there with the likes of Duran both Garcia and Spence will need to demonstrate similar levels of being at home inside a boxing ring that Duran often displayed.
I don't think he was remotely scared of anyone he faced.
But the story has always been that he was leery of Hearns.
Roberto Duran himself defied belief by getting up to congratulate Hearns with a smile shortly after being on the end of one of the most ferocious attacks seen inside a ring.
It's great that we can look back to that historic fight in anticipation of tomorrows showdown.
Many of us fear for Mikey, but he will have other plans. Can he do it? Or will Spence blast him out? Or maybe he will play it safe and attempt to cruise to a points win?
It's this sense of risk and added danger in the air that makes this fight compelling. And it's this preflight uncertainty that's almost always forgotten in the aftermath.

No one is yet putting Garcia on that lofty pedestal.

Kinda why he is taking the fight...

Anyone who thinks this fight will do 1m ppv clearly doesn't understand the US boxing market - I reckon this does inbetween 300k and 350k
Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2019
Might surprise at half million. or somewhere in between. But certainly not 1 Million. When was the last time that happened?kbackup408 wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 14:17 Anyone who thinks this fight will do 1m ppv clearly doesn't understand the US boxing market - I reckon this does inbetween 300k and 350k

no chance it does a million
fury-wilder got described as if it was some massive hugely watched fight and it only did like 325k
spence and mikey arent huge draws

ppl seem to forget with the size difference that spence is actually a hell of a fighter himself and not some lump who is pickings for a smaller guy

I have no doubt that Richard Schaeffer understands the US boxing market.kbackup408 wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 14:17 Anyone who thinks this fight will do 1m ppv clearly doesn't understand the US boxing market - I reckon this does inbetween 300k and 350k
But as a co-promoter he probably feels compelled to sell the fight as being at an interest level where it's clearly not.
I think the 300 to 350,000 sounds about right. But the different FOX networks have been doing a good job of promoting this bout for the past month or so.
So it may very will exceed our expectations. But not anywhere near 1 million.

Richard Schaeffer. De La Hoya's former right hand msn at GBP until their estrangement.
Schaeffer now runs his own promotional firm which has co-promotional ties to Spence-Garcia.

No surprise. Neither Garcia, nor Spence have those kinds of names. Only to hardcores. (especially Canelo).SenorPipino wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 14:43Golovkin-Canelo 2 last September did 1.1 million.oogiebe wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 14:24Might surprise at half million. or somewhere in between. On ESPN it's nowhere near front page. I live in Dallas and the buzz is minimal.SenorPipino wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 12:51 Anybody detect any mainstream interest in this fight? Or is it strictly a big bout for hardcores?

After all those strength exercises, Mikey looks fat instead of muscular:

You have to be either Lomachenko, Crawford or Beltran before ESPN hypes you to death.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 14:52On ESPN it's nowhere near front page. I hear Fox have been hyping the fight?
I dnuh.
Let’s not forget Kovalev-Ward did 160k buys.. and the rematch did worse!
Understandable, on paper Spence-Garcia is a more fun fight.
