I wouldn't agree with Arum. If he fought a US fighter, it would draw more US interest if they marketed it right. With Schwartz, who really cares? It'll be "oh that guy who fought Wilder is fighting some German." The smart play would be to get a popular (local level) guy and market the hell out of it and put it on free tv. That's how you get exposure. More casuals (I hate that term) might be inclined to watch if it's free.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 15:53He just fought the only mildly known us fighter. Arum is hoping his personality and some random ESPN+ viewers will bump it up.oogiebe wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 14:26I understand that ,however Tyson supposedly put off Wilder rematch to make a better name for himself in the US market. He should have faced a known US fighter who could put up a fight. This sort of rot is why boxing is losing its popularity so drastically here.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 14:21Would have been better in UK. But there’s a reason Fury signed a co-promotional deal with ESPN. They have the money to put up, FW does not.

Agreed on the term, but 'casuals' is really fans outside of our obsessive love. I don't know about you, but back in the day when all my friends(even in grade school) watched some boxing I'd be the one to tell them they gotta watch this Michael moorer Lt heavy on NBC. They all knew the big guys and nationality meant nothing. Now, none of them watch. Fury vs (I don't even know whom you would want) is no different.

None of it is 'free' though. It's part of your cable. ESPN will get more casual viewers on + because they pay for it for the UFC than they would on their regular network.

I, as I’m sure most of us do, consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable about boxing but until the announcement I’ve never heard of Schwarz.
Looking at his record he’s fought no-one of note (the opponent I recognised was Gashi) and most of his recent opponents have had super padded records.
Poor poor fight.

ive regularly posted about schwarz here, mainly to bash his opposition lol
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Tom Schwarz - 15 June 2019
It's exactly the same with me. Then and now. They don't know the big three at HW and I think FMJ was the last guy that had name recognition with them. Remember the big PPV parties?! Not anymore.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 16:42 Agreed on the term, but 'casuals' is really fans outside of our obsessive love. I know little about the German, seems big and young..
Unbeaten and has won his fights well enough but obv a padded record.
Is there anything to him? How would he fare against a Chisora or a Dave Allen?

Re: Tyson Fury vs. Tom Schwarz - 15 June 2019
He'd struggle against both. A motivated Chis would thrash him. Owns a massively padded record. He's young at 24, but geez...classic cherry picking. This is a disgrace. Any respect I got for Fury after Wilder is shot to shvt. How Wilder gets thrashed over the DAZN deal and fighting Breazeale, but Fury goes against a domestic level fighter.
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Tom Schwarz - 15 June 2019
I guess the German will look the part if little else.

It'll never be like that again. I remember watching Duran/Leonard I at a packed bar FFS. A casual friend of mine had thirty plus people over his place for Tyson/Ruddock I. I'm lucky if I can get two friends for a PPV now, unless it's WWE.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 17:29Past that, I watched Camacho/Haugen with 10 or 15 buddies.oogiebe wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 16:54It's exactly the same with me. Bar? You mean the replay the next week? I was 11 then, thought it was just cc.oogiebe wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 17:31It'll never be like that again. Maybe they tapped a cable carrier for it, but it had to be live as I had a pit in my stomach!Onetimeonly wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 17:33Bar? You mean the replay the next week? I wasn't questioning, just asking. HBO was really fledgling at the time. That's one I didn't see on cc, had to wait a week. Never heard of those fights in bars at the time.oogiebe wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 17:39Maybe they tapped a cable carrier for it, but it had to be live as I had a pit in my stomach!Onetimeonly wrote: ↑22 Mar 2019, 17:33Bar? Nah, it's mediumjack they're after.
I'd be happy to see Joshua, Wilder and Fury all lose their next fights, just to break this deadlock between them. So many people wrote Lewis off when he lost to McCall, but he picked himself up and proved them wrong. When he lost again to Rahman the response wasn't ‘career in tatters’, it was ‘he'll win a rematch’.
I've never thought less of any boxer for losing. Sometimes more.

Not a single person can justify this match up other than Fury’s bank manager! Embarassing opponent for the mythical lineal champ. Very disappointing

So three of the past four defences of the "Lineal Championship" have been against Seferi (#51 in CW rankings) Pianeta (#110) and this guy.
Turns it into a joke title.

I am glad Fury is fighting Schwarz, because I've been waiting a long time for someone to stand that arrogant kraut on his head.lillywhite14 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 03:50

Look at the play acting in that video. What an embarrassment he is.

Thing is, it doesn’t need Fury. There could be upto 30 heavyweights who could stand Schwarz on his head...Gnome wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 05:05I am glad Fury is fighting Schwarz, because I've been waiting a long time for someone to stand that arrogant kraut on his head.lillywhite14 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 03:50

It’s not a title. Never has been. The lineage ended with James J Jeffries. In theory it ended again on numerous occasions after that too.the_doctor wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 05:00 So three of the past four defences of the "Lineal Championship" have been against Seferi (#51 in CW rankings) Pianeta (#110) and this guy.

Still, if people are going to persist with it, it would be fvcking hilarious if Tom Schwarz’s name is added to it
