I don't know why everyone moans so much about "rubbish" fights.
It's not like you watch Man City vs Liverpool every weekend, or jump straight to the final at Wimbledon.
"Bum of the Month" and all that.
Besides AJ vs Povetkin was a lot closer and more difficult than we all thought it would be.

I'm looking forward to it.

I guess because most boxers only fight every few months. How many fights does Joshua have a year?

Man City will have several big-name matches in the league, and probably at least some in Europe. Whereas Anthony Joshua may not fight again for six months, and it's hardly guaranteed that his next fight will be anything bigger than what we got now.

I'm shocked people are giving Miller a chance. He's a very slow, one punch at a time type fighter

One thing AJ does very well is put his punches together, using a variety and he's got speed. It's why he's the only person to ever take out Kevin Johnson, that Philly shell is unable to avoid hooks, uppercuts, combos...

Miller will be too slow to get out of the way of 5/6 punch combos and as soon as AJ starts moving up the gears, he will be finished

The only thing I give Miller a chance of is possibly going the distance, and I base that off of the fact that he's a very thick guy, and hasn't been stopped in Boxing or Kickboxing, and he's had several contests. Granted not against this Elite level of opponent, but he seems built to be able to take a good shot if nothing else. I figure if AJ stops him it'll be later in the bout, and will have as much to do with Miller's failing stamina as anything.

That being said don't get me wrong. I expect Joshua to dominate. I just wouldn't be shocked if it turned out to be a shutout or near shutout decision instead of a KO. I'd probably still lean toward the KO happening though.

Yeah I get what your saying but no one has landed combinations on him before which is AJ's trademark way of stopping people. Even the most solid chin can't stand up to 5/6/7/8 unanswered power shots

One thing about Miller is that he's got a f**king massive head. I always assume fighters with huge heads must have good punch resistance but I have no factual basis for that whatsoever

I think he'll just be too easy a target (possibly due to the aforementioned f**king massive head) and Joshua will gradually break him down. Might end up getting stopped on his feet if he takes 5+ clean shots after being beaten up for 6-7 rounds.

Still, I suppose he's got a puncher's chance of swinging a huge overhand right with 300lbs behind it and landing the magic shot.

Heavyweight contender Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller has tested positive for the banned substance GW1516 ahead of his scheduled challenge of unified world titleholder Anthony Joshua, three sources with knowledge of the results told ESPN on Tuesday.

The fight is scheduled to take place on June 1 (DAZN) at Madison Square Garden in New York and to serve as the American debut for England's Joshua, but it is now in jeopardy because of Miller's positive test.

The test results, which came to light on Tuesday, were from a random Voluntary Anti-Doping Association-conducted urine test Miller submitted to on March 20.

"We are in the process of obtaining further information about VADA's finding and will have more to say soon on this developing situation," Dmitriy Salita, Miller's co-promoter with Greg Cohen, told ESPN after he was informed of the positive test result. "In the meantime, Jarrell continues to train for his June 1 fight against Anthony Joshua."

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Joshua, also acknowledged the positive test.

"We have been informed by VADA that there has been an adverse finding in Jarrell Miller's sample collected on March 20th, 2019," Hearn said in a statement. "We are working with all relevant parties and will update with more details soon. AJ's preparation continues for June 1st at MSG."

If Miller is dropped from the fight, it will cost him millions. He is due to earn a career-high purse of $4.875 million, not to mention additional money he stands to earn from a percentage of the profits from the fight on Sky Sports Box Office pay-per-view in the United Kingdom. Miller's deal with DAZN calls for two comeback fights worth $1.5 million apiece in the event that he loses to Joshua, which would disappear if there is no fight.

The biggest purse of Miller's career was a little over $500,000 for his fourth-round knockout of Bogdan Dinu on Nov. 17.

GW1516, also known as Cardarine and Endurobol, is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned list and is classified as a metabolic modulator. An athlete might use it to assist in fat loss or use it as an endurance booster. WADA has warned athletes of health risks connected to the drug, which in early trials caused cancer in laboratory mice.

Miller is likely to face a hearing on the matter before the New York State Athletic Commission, which probably will decline to license him for the fight if it handles this as it has similar recent situations. On Dec. 22, for example, Willie Monroe Jr. was due to challenge interim middleweight world titlist Jermall Charlo at Barclays Center in New York, but when Monroe tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone, the commission would not license him, and Charlo faced late replacement Matt Korobov instead.

Joshua v Whyte II: Why it’s not viable to stage a UK PPV fight in New York

Amazingly, an Anthony Joshua v Dillian Whyte rematch has potentially made it back to the table following Jarrell Miller’s impending investigation over a failed drugs test.

Miller’s ‘adverse finding’ with VADA means the ‘Big Baby’ is likely to be thrown out of a fight with Joshua if his B-Sample comes back positive.

Since the announcement early on Wednesday, a free-for-all of opponent names has begun.

The view at WBN is that Miller, being American and all, will surely be replaced with someone known across the Atlantic.

Listing the possibilities, World Boxing News don’t see how it’s viable to have a non-US, or even an opponent in the opposite corner who is relatively unknown to the stateside public.

The fight is staged in New York after all.

The likes of Michael Hunter, Trevor Bryan, Jermaine Franklin and Chris Arreola all hold the correct passport for the job. Whilst Artur Szpilka and Adam Kownacki are both US-based Poles.

Add Luis Ortiz, Sergey Kuzmin and Oscar Rivas to the list of potentials as all are well-known to American boxing audiences of late.

Maybe Ortiz would stand out the most. Although it could take an offer out of the current budget to secure the Cuban on such short notice.

Those nine would be the standout candidates.

Dillian Whyte comes under the ‘unlikely’ banner as the Briton has no profile in the United States market.

Even beating Joseph Parker didn’t really make an impression for Whyte. Which squarely begs the question, ‘would Americans lap up an all-UK fight on their home soil?’

The answer? – A resounding no.

For a start, a lot of UK punters wouldn’t pay their hard earned £20 to stay up until three o’clock in the morning.

One saving grace, and something which could be used to justify Joshua v Whyte II in New York is the fact a lot of tickets sold have been to Brits.

But still, promoter Eddie Hearn has always wanted an American connection for what will be Joshua’s US debut.

We all know Joshua v Whyte II is a lucrative Pay-Per-View in the United Kingdom. This means it’s not smart business to bring it overseas.

Building Joshua v Whyte II for the UK, possibly at The O2 again (as in 2015) or at Wembley, makes a lot more sense than Madison Square Garden.

‘The Bodysnatcher’ saying he’s available and wants the fight is all good an well at six weeks notice. Even then, Hearn would still have to persuade his US employers at DAZN it’s a good idea.

On his best day, Hearn could ice to Eskimos. But shipping Joshua v Whyte II to DAZN and the American boxing fans is a tough gig for anyone.

ALTERNATIVES

Names featuring in the ‘not available’ category with WBN have since featured on ‘official Joshua shortlists’ – Kubrat Pulev and Mahmoud (Manuel) Charr to namedrop just two.

Pulev has been enjoying time out of the ring since fighting in March. Plus, the Bulgarian is suspended in California pending an investigation into claims made by a reporter.

It would be unfathomable for another jurisdiction to license Pulev when under this kind of cloud. Even if Pulev has protested his innocence, he won’t find out if he’s cleared until next month.

As for Charr, two fights in three years is bad preparation for one and a half month’s notice. No US profile to speak of whatsoever for the newly-renamed Mahmoud would be a bad move for Joshua…which Hearn fully understands.

It’s far too early for Oleksandr Usyk to take the plunge despite his heavyweight bow being set for a week earlier. Whilst we all know Tyson Fuy and Deontay Wilder are fully off the menu.

The rest? – Well, Joshua has already beaten most of those who could be secured. This makes Hearn’s job all the more difficult.

Miller dropping out really is Joshua’s worst nightmare at this stage of the game. It’s a headache all at Matchroom and DAZN can firmly do without.

WBA "regular" champion Manuel Charr (31-4, 17 KOs) is one of the frontrunners to replace Miller on the date.

“Internal negotiations are taking place regarding the fight in June Mahmoud Charr against Anthony Joshua,” Charr stated.

“I am very happy about this task and the challenge. I’m ready to go to fight against Joshua and bring home the victory.

“As the No.1 WBA and reigning world champion, I’m the most worthy opponent for Anthony Joshua. I am the suitable and official challenger. For Joshua’s honour, it’s important to fight against the No.1 WBA rankings in the world.”
I think he forgot he failed too.

Miller signed a deal with DAZN, meaning even if he lost to Joshua..

He would be guaranteed $1.5m for 2 fights.

His previous career-high purse was against Bogdan Dinu. He was paid $500k.

Miller's deal with DAZN would disappear if there is no fight.

So he's missing out potentially $4.875m + $1.5m = £6.375m for 3 fights.

Hearn: Luis Ortiz Was The First Name Anthony Joshua Gave Me

When Hearn informed Joshua about the situation with Miller, he says the unified champion names Luis Ortiz was the first name his boxer requested.

‘[Ortiz] was the first name he gave me last night. I called him and just said, ‘mate, I’ve got terrible news, Miller’s failed a drug test’. He didn’t even sound that surprised. He said, ‘Okay, who’s next?’ ‘I asked who he wanted and he said absolutely anyone, no problem," Hearn told IFL TV.

Because of the amount of tickets that were sold, and 10,000 British fans heading over to the card, there is no discussion regarding a new date being set.

"We haven’t talked about a new date. We’ve sold 17,000 tickets with 10,000 Brits flying out, so we’ll deliver," Hearn said.

According to Hearn, there are several possible replacements and they would love Ortiz to be the guy.

"Love that fight, that is an ideal scenario," Hearn said. "That is a big fight. My feeling from their team is he won’t be ready."
