“The fight got shoved up our ass, with the mandatory, and thanks to our friend, Eddie Hearn, who thought he’d go to purse bid and have Lomachenko fight at least one time on DAZN,” Arum told BS.com, referring to Crolla’s promoter and the streaming serving with which Hearn works. “We disabused him because we told him that would be the start of a war that they couldn’t win [with ESPN]. And sanity prevailed. We overpaid for Crolla, and that’s what you’re gonna see on Friday night.

“That being said, Crolla, while not the most seasoned guy, is a tough Englishman who was a world champion. And he’s gonna try his ass off to win. It should be an enjoyable fight. But it’s certainly not the fight, given our druthers, that we would’ve made.”

The only way Lomachenko could’ve avoided the Crolla fight would’ve been to give up the WBA lightweight title he won by knocking out Jorge Linares in the 10th round last May 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The two-time Olympic gold medalist is adamant about attempting to win all of boxing’s recognized lightweight titles, thus Arum didn’t even try to persuade the three-division champion to vacate that title.

“You’ve gotta understand that my guy Lomachenko is an eastern European,” Arum said. “They love to pile up titles, they love to unify and they don’t like to give up belts. There was no chance I could convince him to walk away.”

This is a sports car versus a compact sedan. The Porshe blows this Toyota Carolla away in first gear.

It’ll be a slightly tougher test than many are expecting it to be.

If Crolla uses his size advantage to crowd, smother and rough-up Lomachenko from the opening bell onwards and can somehow maintain a frantic pace for a prolongued period, the Brit might be fortunate and end up winning two or three rounds.

I still expect Lomachenko score a one-sided decision victory or perhaps even force a very late stoppage sometime from round ten onwards though.

Unlike Walters, Sosa, Marriaga and Rigondeaux, I reckon that Crolla won’t quit and he’ll probably try to achieve some sort of moral victory by doing his best to last the distance.

Crolla won't quit.

Lomachenko will have to stop him, and that might not be possible. I expect a one sided result with plenty of showboating from Loma.

Vasily Lomachenko will be getting $1.2 million with a guarantee’d purse of $3.2 million for his title defense. Anthony Crolla has a guarantee of $300,000. (Crolla will get an additional purse for UK TV rights)..

and Arum said they had to overpay Crolla.

In the co-feature, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez will be getting a purse of $250,000, and his opponent light heavyweight Tommy Karpency will be getting $100,000.

Light welterweight Arnold Barboza Jr.is getting $50,000, and his opponent former WBO 140 lb champion Mike Alvaradois getting $30,000.

Welterweight Alexander Besputin (12-0, 9 KOs) is getting a purse of $25,000, and his opponent Alfredo Blanco is getting $10,000.

Think the fight goes into the alloted 12 rounds, and Crolla is suscepitble to cuts, so it could be stopped that way. Or possibly some accumulation of damaging shots later on in the fight. He's tough as they come, but Lomachenko probably has to goods to break him down and make him wilt.

I anticipated a KO victory for Lomachenko.

Clive wasn’t even brave enough to predict the outcome of this fight, but has the audacity to criticise others for failing to accurately predict the way the bout would play out.

Clive is a coward for doing that. Am I wrong?

Damn it, I underestimated Lomachenko again! Guess this must be the fully recovered Lomachenko. Poor Crolla, getting so brutally dismantled in such a fashion.

It was a hopeless mismatch - worse than Sugar Ray Leonard v Dave Boy Green.

Just how good is Vasyl Lomachenko right now?
