I always listen to their podcast, but had to switch off halfway through this one, listening to the pair of them in absolute denial.tobyh5 wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 09:44 The Five Live podcast is a fcking gem, Khan tells Costello that he did not quit but he got hurt and they decided to not carry on. Uhm, that is quitting you twat.
He also says that his recollection of what the ref said was asking if he was ok, then saying he had five minutes to recover, then in the next breath he says he did not know he had five minutes and would have taken it if he knew. And Costello does not pick him up on that bullshit.
I normally enjoy this podcast (if I ignore Bunce wheezing and squeeking like a teenage girl and repeating "I am not being an aftertimer.....let's tell it as it is.....") but they dropped the ball here. Saying he did not quit and making a load of excuses. Tongues too firmly up his arse.

Spoken by someone who knows fornicate all about boxing.
Low blows are usually unintentional, they happen frequently, most fighters just get on with it, unless it's particularly severe.

The referees ALWAYS do so, they try and resume the action as soon as possible - there's nothing unusual in this.hitman_hatton1 wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 13:12 it's a combination of both the referee not giving him the time and khan swallowing it.
think he knew he wasn't getting into that fight and got a way out.
at the same time the ref was right up to him and asking him if he could continue.
khan did come right onto it so i'm not doubting how painful it was.![]()
he ain't the first or last fighter to quit.
someone should do a thread on the worst quit jobs now.
chavez in the 2nd fight with randall is my pick.![]()
The fighter is within his rights to ignore the referee, and take the full 5 minutes.
Painful maybe, but as I said, fighters have adrenalin coursing through their veins, so the effects would be minimised.

He's as thick as a pint of pigshit sat in a lumber yard.

Bruce Seldon vs Mike Tyson was the biggest quit job.hitman_hatton1 wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 13:12 it's a combination of both the referee not giving him the time and khan swallowing it.

Oof! That was really bad. Not a quit directly but he took full opportunity to get DQ'd. Coward.

I never understood the motivation to take the DQ. As you said. He was on his way to win, IMHO. Heck, he even kd Abraham. And what's with the crying in the corner after?Onetimeonly wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 14:32 Biggest quit I've ever seen. Well ahead and faking damage from a shot that wouldn't have interrupted me chugging a beer or hurt my little sister.
Re: Amir Khan: "I'm a warrior!"
abraham was coming on a bit and shoulda got credited with a kd the previous round or two before. dirrell just did not like the heat in any fight, he mustve flopped 50 times vs froch

You think his DQ win over Uzcategui was questionable? Another fake hurt?Onetimeonly wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 14:40 He had a panic attack. Only fighter I'm comfortable calling him a pussy.

It was but he looked like he could've continued. Uzcategui certainly won the rematch handily.

Agreed, Dirrell had no stomach at all for being hit, or the threat of being hit.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 14:40 He had a panic attack. Only fighter I'm comfortable calling him a pussy.
He should arguably have been DQ'd against Froch, for continually hurling himself to the floor. The referee can DQ a fighter for failing to engage with his opponent, which is effectively what he was doing.

If the low blow hurt THAT much, he wouldn't have been standing up all that time. He would have been bent over. He cried because he knows he's a pussy.

I'm not sure about that myself it's the refs duty to offer 5 minutes rest not the boxers to insist on it .jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 13:42 The referees ALWAYS do so, they try and resume the action as soon as possible - there's nothing unusual in this.

The fact is, every single fight I have ever seen where a fighter takes a low blow, nobody ever takes the full 5 minutes, and the referee is constantly asking them if they are ready to fight on.paddy chavez wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 15:50 I'm not sure about that myself it's the refs duty to offer 5 minutes rest not the boxers to insist on it .
It's the same in UFC.
I presume the referees are under some sort of pressure from commissions to do so to prevent fighters buying inordinate amounts of time just to rest.

Plus when it’s a televised show, the resting time basically equates to 5 mins of potential airtime where literally nothing is happening, which I’m sure any network would try to avoid if they can, so probably more pressure coming from the tv producers as well.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 19:08 The fact is, every single fight I have ever seen where a fighter takes a low blow, nobody ever takes the full 5 minutes, and the referee is constantly asking them if they are ready to fight on.
