The 6-feet-1 Hurd, the biggest champion in the 154-pound division, revealed Thursday night that he had to cut 36 pounds during fight week six months ago. Hurd still weighed in at 152 pounds, two below his division’s limit, for a fourth-round knockout of England’s Jason Welborn on December 2 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Though he had an easier time making weight for his upcoming fight against Julian Williams, Hurd came in heavier at their weigh-in Friday afternoon than for the Welborn bout. The 28-year-old Hurd officially weighed 153¾ pounds for their 12-round fight for Hurd’s IBF, IBO and WBA 154-pound championships.
Good to see Hurd not having trouble making weight. He is big AF, but so is Munguia and Charlo too. Hopefully he will become undisputed Light Middleweight champ. Probably no one ever achieved that in this division ?

Super middleweight Demond Nicholson was recovering in ICU at a Virginia hospital Saturday afternoon due to an undisclosed kidney condition.

Nicholson’s promoter, Lou DiBella, told BS.com Nicholson’s fight against Ernest Amuzu, scheduled for Saturday night, was canceled once Nicholson was hospitalized Friday. The Nicholson-Amuzu match was supposed to be part of the Jarret Hurd-Julian Williams undercard at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.

DiBella said that Nicholson was resting comfortably and expects to make a full recovery.

Nicholson, 26, made the contracted weight of 168 pounds Friday afternoon for their scheduled 10-round bout. The 6-feet Nicholson weighed in at exactly 168 pounds, the super middleweight limit, but began cramping Friday as he attempted to rehydrate in his hotel room.

The pain became excruciating and Nicholson’s manager, Thomas Williams, drove him to an area hospital.

Nicholson (21-3-1, 20 KOs), of Laurel, Maryland, and Amuzu (25-4, 22 KOs), of Prichard, Alabama, were supposed to fight for the regional USNBC super middleweight championship.

Should be a good fight. Hurd late, but Williams has a chance. Pretty talented guy forgotten a bit after the charlo demolition.

Hopes of one more title shot for 33-year old former WBA flyweight titlist Luis Concepcion (37-8, 26 KO), 115, of Panama City, Panama, took a hit on Saturday’s undercard.

Concepcion celebrated at the final bell but it was 27-year old Alexandru Marin (18-0, 11 KO), 114 ¾, of Bethesda, Maryland who had his hand raised in a ten round unanimous decision by scores of 97-93 and 96-94 twice.

27-year old Aaron Anderson (5-0, 4 KO), 154 ¼, of Baltimore, Maryland stayed undefeated and added another knockout to his early ledger with a blazing first round stoppage of 38-year old Carlos Galindo (1-10), 152 ¼, of Lima, Peru. The official time was 2:00 of round one. The referee was Wayne Spinola.

In the non-televised opener, 30-year old journeyman Kevin Womack Jr. (9-17-4, 7 KO), 155 ¼, of Baltimore, Maryland scored a vicious second-round knockout of 32-year old Mark Duncan (3-2, 3 KO), 156 ½, of Clarksburg, Maryland. It was Womack’s second straight loss. Womack halted a three-fight losing streak. The official time of the stoppage was 1:39. The referee was Brent Bovell.

24-year old Jr. featherweight Stephen Fulton (16-0, 7 KO), 120 ½, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania took a serious step towards contention, scoring a knockdown and going twelve rounds for the first time in a shutout unanimous decision over 38-year old former WBO bantamweight titlist Paulus Ambunda (27-2, 11 KO), 122, of Namibia.

The victory was punctuated by the knockdown in the eighth round, a big shot over the top bringing the crowd alive. Ambunda beat the count on shaky legs and stayed afoot to the bell. Fulton never threatened to stop him again but maintained the advantage through the later rounds and cruised to three matching cards of 120-107. With the win Fulton picked up Ambunda’s IBO belt at 122 lbs. The referee was Michelle Meyers.

Korobov got screwed big time there. He was announced the winner by Majority decision, and then the result was overturned to a Majority Draw.

Should've been a Unanimous Decision for Korobov.

Apparently 97-93 and 95-95 2x. I thought 97-93 for Korobov was right on the money. Aleem did well in the last 2 rounds, but clearly lost at least 7 of the first 8.

That was classic bookies-depended move. Korobov victory (especialy by decision) was hughely unloaded by gamblers and now they are blatanly robbered

Fairfax, Maryland - Heating up gradually from round to round, the first televised fight of the night delivered quality middleweight action that peaked in the final round. Ultimately, an early lead for 36-year old Matt Korobov (29-2, 14 KO), 160 ¾, of Russia was too much for 25-year old Immanuwel Aleem (18-2, 11 KO), 159 ½, of Richmond, Virginia to overcome but he didn’t leave with a loss.

An exciting second half of the contest resulted in a ten-round majority draw after initially being announced as a majority decision win for Korobov.

The referee was Michelle Meyers.
Korobov appeared to score a knockdown in the fourth but the referee ruled the shot as landing behind the head. Down the stretch of the round, both men landed big with the crowd coming alive as Aleem seemed to stun Korobov only for the Russian to land hard off the ropes and keep the edge.

Action heated up again in the sixth.Korobov rocked Aleem with a southpaw left and kept the heat on with some more of the same.Aleem rode out the storm and fired back late in the round as Korobov slowed down, perhaps catching his wind.

Both men had their moments in a feisty eighth round. With Korobov forced to work off the ropes, the Russian landed some telling uppercuts while Aleem had him backing away with in spots, pressing and threatening with the right. Aleem was off his stool first for the ninth and began the round like he saw an opportunity. Korobov used Aleem’s aggression against him with more accurate, thudding shots to the head and body but Aleem kept coming and a late burst had the crowd roaring in his favor.

Aleem rewarded the crowd with a dogged effort in the tenth and final round. Still eating more leather than he was landing early, Aleem pressed and had Korobov on the back foot in the final minute, chasing him down with the hope of a knockout or knockdown in a fight that appeared to favor Korobov to then in terms of scoring. Aleem didn’t get either but he did send it to the cards with some wind at his back.

While the crowd disagreed, the judges came in fair at 95-95 and winning scores of 96-95 and 97-93 for Korobov.

A correction was to follow.

The official scorecard of judge Mark D’Attilio read 96-95 on the basis of an even final round. Apparently this was in error, as a 10-9 round for Aleem results in a draw on the cards. Aleem won the final three rounds on two cards including D’Attilio’s.

Hows everyone scoring this so far?

I had Hurd winning 2 out of first 5 rounds.

Some have Williams winning all rounds.

I have a feeling Hurd is gonna lose this on points.

Even if he wins 6 rounds now, the KD will make the difference.

I'm stunned right now. Never thought Williams would've done this well in this bout. What an effort, he fought a marvelous fight, and it'd be an absolute robbery if J Rock Williams doesn't get this decision. He kicked his ass.

Williams showed the toughness and durability that was questionable after the Charlo fight.

But let's await the decision. Could it be controversial? Probably.
