Ruthless-RKO wrote: 23 May 2019, 09:44 Hughie Fury will happily fight Deontay Wilder later this year

“If he’s looking for an opponent this year, Hughie will step up and fight him, no problem,” Peter told Boxing News this week.

“You can print this now: If Wilder needs an opponent because he can’t get whoever they’re trying to get, Hughie will step in and fight him this year. It’s an easy fight to make. Hughie would fight him in a heartbeat.

“Hughie is not avoiding anyone. He will take on all the top contenders. If Wilder is looking for an opponent, that’s a fight Hughie would take 100%.”

Ever the realist, Peter Fury is a great believer in his son’s abilities but cognisant all the same of Wilder’s power and Hughie’s underdog status in any potential fight between the two.

He knows there is plenty for Hughie to work on and knows that defeats to Joseph Parker and Kubrat Pulev need to be seen, on reflection, as learning experiences rather than as being indicative of Hughie’s ceiling in the sport. If this proves to be the case, fights against the likes of Wilder won’t be beyond his reach.

“Hughie would be an underdog, but I think he’s on the verge of doing special things and I don’t talk lightly,” Peter said. “Let’s get Saturday out the way, then get a good opponent for July or September, and if Wilder wants that fight towards the end of the year, or even in September, we would look at it.”

“I know Wilder has got extreme power in both hands and is a hell of a puncher,”
said Fury, “but Breazeale was tailor-made for him. He came in, his head didn’t move, and he let him tee off.

“Taking Wilder’s shots and saying ‘that’s not hurting me’ means nothing. You’re still there taking them. That’s why it ended in one round. I don’t think it was so much a case of how spectacular Wilder is. It had more to do with how poorly Breazeale went about it. He was basically walking into the road and stepping in front of a truck. He got clipped and that was the end of it.

“What I will say about Breazeale is he has a very good chin and did well to get up from the knockout shot. He took a thunderous right hand and managed to get up from it. He deserves a lot of credit for that. But there wasn’t a lot of thought process in his game plan.”
Perhaps Hughie should at least prove he can beat someone of Breazeale’s level first...

LOL! It's all talk. He's no where near that level, nor will he ever be.

A little presumptuous of a 24 year old Oggie?
2 more right hands per round and he would have beaten Parker at 22 years old.
He doesn't even have his man strength yet. He does have a pretty good team around him and of he still wants to succeed at a higher level, I believe he can.

i could see him beating a guy like breazeale, i man i thought kassi deserved a draw vs dom and mansour was up 5-0. though just as easily i can see breazeale crudely roughing him up and putting him into that air jab negativity

2 more testicles and me mum would be me dad! It won't take long to find out. Hughie's really not too good and we'll see him lose within another 12 months or so. He'll never be a good puncher. I think if he had any power, we'd see some signs of it til now.

I think Breazeale would take him out. If Hughie's last name wasn't Fury, we wouldn't be discussing him.

The fact is that he didn’t win, so his best victory is Sam Sexton. I do think that Hughie can potentially cement himself as a solid top 5-10 guy and maybe pick up a belt depending on the circumstances but he needs a decent name on his record sooner rather than later. Close defeats and excuses won’t cut it indefinitely...

He can become a top HW contender. Maybe in 5-7 years time. He needs to stop rushing and trying to fast track himself. He CLEARLY isn’t going to become a world champion in the next 3-5 years. He should use this time to build up his name further. Fight decent opposition.

Then in 5-7 years time, Hughie will be what? 28? Ish.

He'll be 25 this September. In 5-7 years he'll be contending with the likes of Dubois; Gorman; Ajagba; Makhmudov; Sirenko; Jalalov; (maybe Gassiev) and others.

No Hughie will not be a contender in 5-7 years.
He doesn't have it in him to be next level.

I'm not a Hughie fan but Breazeale is awful. I'm curious as to what makes you so high on him.

I don't think it follows that he still has a lot of time to improve because he is 'young'. Whatever age boxers turn pro at, they usually get 10 good years, sometimes 12 depending on a number of factors. Wilfred Benitez turned pro in his teens but he didn't get to apply all of his vast experience in his 30s because his body was already breaking down before he was 30.

I know boxers fight less these days, and have easier careers because they can pick a path that's more suitable to their abilities, but ultimately all those years of training, sparring and fighting must take their toll on the body. What I'm saying is I don't think him turning pro young necessarily gives him a lot of extra time to develop.

Don't have to be very high on a fighter to beat Hughie. He can't hurt Breazeale and I can see Breazeale catching up to him eventually.

Hughie did have Pulev rocking around at one point, but it was glaringly obvious that him and his team had no plan B. He trudged around after a near 40 year old man and got outboxed.

An ideal opponent for Hughie comeback, Savannah Marshall opponent is awful. Looks like she is fighting her mum. A respectable opponent for Hennessy Son debut, thou if I was Mick I would be paying him extra not to throw any punches.

Pity there seems to be no way of watching the undercard.. 9 is late for a boxing show to start.

Peter fury seems to just train them to be defensive with very little offensive aggression. It just means they try to nick fights off the backfoot. Tyson was fortunate to get the decision over wlad in the most boring title fight I've seen, in wlads backyard. Being too defensive cost him vs wilder and Hughie fought the same boring fight vs Parker. Being boring works if your personality outside the ring is huge. Tyson benefitted from that but what organizational wants Hughie as it's champion? I'd rather get the hoover out and start cleaning my house than watch hughie fight. He gives callum Smith a run for his money for the most boring interview in boxing too.
