Don't think they would want to losing that sort of money for long if true .
Maybe put subscription up to fill the void , I remember when sky in the UK was free in the early days , look at the price of it now .

I don't think sub prices are their issue. I think they are over rating boxing's popularity. They will need to expand to cover other sports and package their offering to a wider audience. Else, it'll be game over within a year I suspect.

Ok ,I wish sky would go the other way and give boxing its own dedicated channel , probably not sustainable in today's entertainment market but I will never pay a sub to prop up sports I can't stand .

Boxing is way more popular in the UK then in the US by a long shot. If a boxing only channel can't work there than it'll never happen here. I think DAZN does UFC aside from boxing. (I always mix up MMA with UFC, but it's one of them.)

Just a reminder, too.... White is still planning on promoting boxing himself.... As much revenue, etc as the UFC has generated for the man I find it interesting that he's adamant of pursuing boxing.

He loves boxing, that was his first plan ages ago. The boxing would be under the zuffa banner. Boxers are pampered and overpaid these days. I doubt he'll find it to his liking but if the rumors of them buying the pbc pan out it would be interesting.

The fight set an online piracy viewership record, with live illegal streams watched by more than 13 million viewers worldwide, surpassing Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury.

93% of the illegal online viewership came from unauthorised streams that appeared on YouTube.

The countries with the highest online piracy viewership were Nigeria with 2.35 million viewers, followed by Kenya and the United Kingdom with nearly 1 million viewers each

I wouldn't trust those figures as far as I could throw them. It was seemingly free to air live in Nigeria via Twese Sports (as per their facebook). To watch it live with that many pirates doesn't make sense.

Seems like an anti piracy company are trying to get in DAZN's ear as the Golovkin fight wasn't sold to international markets other than Kazakhstan, at the behest of Golovkin, and even that deal was late to be confirmed.

The time of the live fight in Kenya, who are regarded as being among the King of online piracy, would have been insanely early in the day.

The US numbers so seem questionable given the month DAZN had, with Canelo and Golovkin also drawing in subscribers.

It's a like that Midia research article about DAZN looking to sell off, when one of Midia's main clients are Disney, who own ESPN.

Worth nothing that the official Sky YouTube video has only managed 1.2 million views

Im not sure where that was lifted , but literally made up stats there.

There is zero way of knowing the viewership and percentage of people using X or Y platform to do so.

Furthermore, there is no data to say that these people would have paid money to have watched it officially, should their stream be unavailable to them.

At the end of the day, if a product is easily accessible and reasonably priced in the first place, then streaming would not be the animal that its become.

To expect people to pay out for a box, annual subscription and all the other bells and whistles - to enable themselves to watch the event in crisp HD in the year 2019 is completely missing the point.

Sky's business decision makers only has themselves to blame here. The event should be available to non-customers whom dont want to support 250 channels of rubbish they wont watch, just in order to buy a fight.

Yeah, if they can accurately track it they could shut it down. Probably leaked by hearn to tackle the fact that fight didn't draw many subscriptions.

Pretty sure Sky do know all that, but they’re just making hay whilst the sun shines. As long as there’s people willing to pay them crazy subscription fees - and then PPV on top! - then they’d be foolish as a business not to exploit it. But they’re definitely moving into the online streaming side of things; NOW tv seems to get promoted way more than regular Sky these days. They know it’s just a matter of time until the old business model is dead.

Oh shut up Bunce, you effing fool.

What a sleazy way to defend PPV greed.

Shall we just make every boxing card PPV then? What abouts cards that aren't televised? Are those boxers not risking their lives?
We have to wait until the whole story unfolds but In light of the Whyte-Rivas aftermath so far, I'll be interested to see what Bunce has to say about boxing cheating PPV customers by selling shows knowing that one of the main event boxers had failed a drug test.

One of the idiot presenters on Talksport last night brought up the issue of customers at the very least being refunded. I actually agree with him for a change.

Yep. With Bunce's ironclad stance on PPV boxing. Does he think people have a right to demand a refund after a fighter in the main event of the PPV had an unfair and unannounced advantage which the promoter and boxing board knew about before the fight?

If it was announced by the promoter or the board before the fight, considering they knew. At least then people could have made an informed decision to buy the PPV or not. It wouldn't have sold a third as much.

First time I’ve ever seen this. Sums him up. Absolute dog. Was well known in boxing circles in the 90s and naughties for his greed and free-loading. Now whining over illegal streams you seriously couldn’t make it up.

Talent does what it can;
Genius does what it must;
And every now and again a sh*thouse lands a cushy number on TV.

I'm not sure if Bunce is just a total moron and the words he spoke about Jade Goody were just confused and just came out totally wrong.

I'm not defending Jade Goody on celebrity big brother. Her program she made while she was dying was one of the most important programs ever on TV. It opened the eyes of a younger generation to the horrible disease of cancer. It stopped cancer being considered an old persons disease.

Young girls going for smear tests rose and continues to rise dramatically in the UK after Jade Goodies death. It certainly made a whole new generation aware.

I do think that's what that idiot Bunce meant.

People do love to moan and criticise, yet are willing to take the freebie. I can see where criticisms are coming from. Sometimes the “fans” can be the worst thing about British boxing, with often extreme, exaggerated or unbalanced negativity even when things are good.

Are those watching for free lost customers or potential future customers? If I was skint and could watch a fight for free, I would. If I was skint and couldn't watch a fight for free, I wouldn't watch it.
