We’ve debated this before with regard to athletics, and people like Mark-Lewis Francis who has achieved about as much in athletics as Stephen Hawking, yet is draped in bling and admired by (most of) the public at large.

Any form of sponsorship for these people should be rescinded until they win something of note. If I hear the word “hero” in association with Tim Henman ever again I may very well proceed to the BBC offices and demand an explanation.

Nelson was a hero, Colonel H. Jones was a hero….. Tim Henman is not a “hero”. If I had my way, “Henman Hill” would be noted for being a crucifixion site for it’s namesake, as opposed to a viewing platform for strawberry-munching, champagne coifing tools.
With Tennis and Athletics you can be a flop one week and a hero the next, alot of companies will pay high sponsership hoping that these guys will fulfill their potential.
Its different with boxing, one bad defeat and your a flop, look at Audley Harrison for that, who'd sponser him now?

He was 3-0 up in the 1st set at the French open, and then lost the next 5 on the trot, and ended up losing it 6-4.
He has also said that he will be supporting Paraguay against England and has bought a Paraguay top.

Conversely, you can be sure that English Tennis Fans will be supporting him wholeheartedly............

Twat. I hate this blatant anti-Englishness from Scots. It would be called blatant racism if it was against anyone else.
And while we're on this subject, maybe you haven't noticed all the shit that scott harrison, kevin anderson, alex arthur etc get on these forums and also the bbc one?

Basically slated for being Scottish, so get down off your high horse lest I knock you off, sir!

This is just paranoia. Harrison has got grief for getting in fights and being drunk, Alex Arthur for being overrated (he is) Kevin Anderson - haven't read much at all.

It has nothing to do with being Scottish - they are not slated for being Scots???!!! In fact by and large you will find Elglish boxing fans want them to do well.

EVERYONE gets stick on forums - Calzaghe, Hatton, etc etc

And as to negative press for Scottish team/fighters - I don't see it. Whenever the Scots lose (as happens the majority of the time) it is always "Brave Scots go down fighting" etc etc.

How many times do we see the word 'brave' used when a Scottish team gets beaten.???

English supporters never fervently support the opposing team against Scotland/Wales/Ireland - in fact the majority back them.

Scots should be bloody happy to be part of Great Britain - they do very well out of the UK and have their own parliament, which allows them to override laws made in Westminster - effectively meaning that the Scots can have their own laws, whilst at the same time Scottish MPS vote on laws which are not going to affect them.....

Crazy......

James Blake, ranked 8th in the world and rising.

Regards Murray, I think he will be a top 5 player once he sorts out his injury problems, gets a decent coach and improves his second serve. Other than Nadal who is freakishly good for his age, Murray is the next best prospect in the mens game. OK he lost to Monfils yesterday while injured but don't forget he thrashed him 6-1, 6-4 a few weeks ago.

I think its a little soon to be saying Murray will not be a world beater the lad has only just turned 19. He's obviously got a lot of maturing to do both physically and mentally he'll be a lot better when he fills out. And take into account he is without a coach at the moment and looking for a new one.

apparently Murray's problems are because his lower spine is still not fully formed, and he is still growing.

Couldn't help notice he's played in a hell of a of tournaments this year, 26 ATP tournaments already thus far. More than most of the other players on the tour in the top 40.

i hate tennis. why does any gathering of tennis fans suddenly become morons? they will cheer and find amusing the most idiotic thing. "henman hill"????? pathetic! henman does deserve a hill of beans. tennis commentary has to be the most dunderheaded thing you'll ever listen to, and that includes athletics!! its the middle classes - they have no idea about the true meaning of competition. listen to those dopes at wimbledon with their poncey voices making stupid ill informed comments. even if a tennis player trips over their concern is way way over the top.
i hate tennis - it is everything sport should be against aaaaagggghhhhh
