I would be pretty cheesed of this bout isn't in the UK/USA/Africa - taking this bout to a territory that doesn't have a boxing following is ridiculous (and yes I had the same feeling when Callum Smith fought in Saudi last year)

Saudi Arabia is unpleasant in many ways, but many of our other close 'allies' are similarly odious. The Saudis and the CIA co-funded the mujahideen, later Al Qaeda, so let's refuse to fight in America. The UK trained Islamic State fighters in Libya, so let's refuse to fight here as well! And the western media trumpeted war in Iraq with fake WMD propaganda, so let's refuse to even fight on TV!

Ultimately these are professional athletes with a very short shelf life. If I was offered gazillions to fight in Saudi Arabia, I wouldn't turn it down on some daft principle.

You would take the cash - fair enough - and that’s honest if nothing else. I hope I wouldn’t, but I KNOW I would if I was skint. AJ has more money than any man could need already, so maybe he could cfgord to make a stand and use his power for good.., but of course it’s not AJ’s job to police morality. Our UK/US regimes have done plenty worse after all, but it’s not “a daft principle” either.
