Billy Joe Saunders has joined the list of potential opponents for Canelo Alvarez’s next fight after US broadcaster DAZN approved him, according to reports.
It is well known that Canelo is currently on the hunt for his second bout of the year, but needs the go-ahead from DAZN – who are paying him mega money and expect top opposition – before his promoters Golden Boy can make serious progress in negotiations.
It’s claimed by Mike Coppinger that Billy Joe Saunders, Demetrius Andrade and Jermall Charlo have also been approved by DAZN and added to the list of potential foes.
This opens up multiple new doors for Golden Boy as they look to finally nail down an opponent.
Britain’s Saunders entered the fray after signing with promoter Eddie Hearn, Sky Sports and DAZN earlier this week.
It seemed unlikely he would get the call to face Canelo next, however this may now change.
Hearn also promotes Andrade and revealed to reporters that he’d in fact agreed a deal for the American to face the 29-year-old superstar next.
However, the promoter claims Canelo is currently waiting to see if Kovalev comes through against Yarde next weekend and could still pursue the Russian for a fight at the end of 2019.
