With JCs hands and Froch's chin, I can't see him getting knocked out

120-108 maybe, wouldn’t stop Froch though even when he could punch

I don't figure Calzaghe would've blanked him, but he'd have won a clear UD.

Not really. I just wouldn't give the man credit for something he didn't achieve in my eyes. Even if I were talking to him. I doubt I'd walk up to him and say that first thing, but it'd come up somewhere in the conversation I'll bet. Provided we talked long.

For the most part Ward was boring when he was active.

Ward did beat Kovalev with low blows, but it's already been discussed, and it doesn't matter anymore.

I'll never give him any credit for those performances though. He's 0-2 against Kovalev in my view, and I'd tell him that to his face.

Froch was right about another thing too. I've never watched an Andre Ward fight twice.

I agree with Froch. Ward was clever though and highly skilled at what he did. He got away with it. But I don't think he'd have gone unbeaten had he fought away from home and not had the ref on his side. Kov II was one of the worst endings to a major fight I've ever seen.

You're happy with the way that fight ended, are you? It was a terrible stoppage and a shocking fight.

Kovalev hasn't looked right since the second fight with Pascal, he was poor against that Chilemba bloke just before he fought Ward the first time, like he got old overnight. Ward was clever to wait until he was on the slide.

Chilemba is a tough SOB to be fair.

I wouldn't say Ward waited.. He only just moved up to LHW in 2016 and took 2 interim bouts to get used to the weight.

TBH, Kovalev looked good in the first Ward fight.

Happy? I don’t really care. I felt Kovalev wanted out well before the shot to the belt line. The referee has said the same. I watched it again before I commented.

Kovalev quit.

Froch is right.

Beat Kov by TKOing his bollocks. It's not the first time, look at all the blant headbutts vs Kessler. One of them he literally charged him like a rhino to slap the nut on him and got away with it. Then there's the constant holding, spoiling, illegal shots, ducking down so low he might as well be resting his chin on the floor.

He was a blatant cheat. He wouldn't be undefeated if he fought outside of his home and without biased judges and refs on his side.

So good that in the eyes of a lot of people he won it. Then he ‘loses’ the next one by being punched in the balls. I think Ward is underrated as a badass: I think he’s a dirty, tough mean motherfucker and i kinda like that in a fighter. But that stoppage is still fornicating disgraceful and neither Ward nor Kovalev will never get his full due respect because of it. That’s a shame.

best ??

based on what ?

avoiding Joe Calzaghe - he was good at that all right
You must be new

He was mandatory for the WBC that joe vacated to face Hopkins ffs. He rang him live on itv asking for the fight. Regardless of who would have won, you are WAY OFF there.

And it cracks me up that people demean Froch's career by stating that there was once another boxer in history that could potentially have beaten him. 'Froch was shit cos the was once an undefeated, unified, two weight champ (who could potentially be the greatest British fighter ever) that may have beaten him...oh they didn't fight....the boxer vacated his title instead of face him....but still.....'

Calzaghe avoided Froch (because he had bigger fight to fry?)
Froch avoided DeGale (who was also a mandatory). Froch either wanted a Ward rematch or retire and he retired.

So basically.. Froch did to DeGale, what Calzaghe did to him.

BTW, i'm nor for or against any of these 3. Not a fan of any of them.

I remember after Ward Kov fights people were telling me they scored for Ward because of his technical superiority and the sweet science of his approach. Was a pretty laughable explanation to be honest, and clearly those people had just automatically lumped Ward into a certain 'brilliant technical boxer' category without actually going by what happened in the fights.

His wins over Kov were very far from beautiful boxing or 'sweet' science. He basically actually got outboxed at a distance and felt the power, so he threw himself inside and started just grinding away and pushing away, and yes, sometimes bashing Russian balls. Fair play to him, that's pretty much what he needed to do, because when he was on the outside he was getting hurt and losing the rounds.

Very strong, rough fighter who pushed the boundaries and always got away with it. I'm surprised the purists seem to really like him. I guess if you win a lot of decisions and aren't a puncher they just lap you up automatically even if your style is heavily based a good deal on roughousing and 'any means necessary'.

Froch is partly right. Ward was a dirty fighter. Plenty are.

But he was also a highly skilled technician.

Froch's comments are also traced with bitterness and envy.

I think it was more like, Froch said he wouldn't be able to beat Calzaghe on points, so he'd have to stop him. Or something like that.
