Like he did Ward? Beterbiev is stronger, hits much harder and is as good inside as Ward. Kova and Beterbiev met multiple times in amateurs, and their fights were even. Current version of Kovalev won't beat Beterbiev.

Sure, Kovalev is still one of the top dogs at LHW and a belt holder, but he’s past his prime now. He’s definitely not at his best anymore. We have seen Kov gets tired around mid way, depending on how he boxes. Canelo has obviously seen something there where he thinks he can win.
Exactly. Kovalev's vulnerabilities are a very good match for Canelo's strengths.

After ME, TR, Klimas, trainer(s) take their cuts, Kovalev will barely have enough for a good party

Ward is vastly superior to Beterbiev.

I don't see much similarity between beterbiev and ward.

At least he’s getting more than Jacobs.

From what I saw, Canelo at supermiddle looked less flashy but could hit hard at the body. However, this is light heavy and Kovalev is not Fielding, and his jab can really block you... Canelo is not as powerful as a guy like Yarde, either

Just because the fight is at 175, Canelo should just come in around 170.

That factor is not venue dependent.

But he's a better puncher than Yarde overall. It's like comparing Matthysse to Pacquiao. One might be a harder hitter but the other is just a more effective puncher.

I'm not much of a fan of either fighter, but I can't help but think that Canelo's body attack will wreck Kov.

Good comparison, but can Canelo make it over 168 effectively?

He doesn't really have to. He already gets in the ring above 168. All he has to do is not drain just like Pacquiao and Maywather do. That will benefit him more.

I'm wondering if Kov will be fully recovered from the Yarde fight. He didn't get much time to rest!

Definitely a consideration, on the other hand maybe he will be ‘fighting fit’. Andy Ruiz got the AJ fight 5 weeks after his last. This probably contributed to his performance rather than ballooning up (more so) in between fights. If Kovalev isn’t hitting the ale, is training hard again it could be an advantage that he has stayed in shape. But who knows about Kovalev, could have no motivation, be cashing out and skimping on training.

At this age, with all wear and year, insufficient recovery time can't be good.

I understand but how much recovery time does he need? A week? Unless he’s injured or torn something. I’m more concerned about his motivation. He just may lack motivation having to go through another intense training camp without a decent rest in between.

Big props to Canelo for continuing to challenge himself like this, but this may be a bridge too far for him. I think Kovalev will be too strong for him on the inside, and can outbox him from a distance too. He's gonna have hell in this matchup. If he thinks he can just take Kovalev's shots, and break him down to the body, that's a big gamble because he's never fought a man this big, and Kovalev ain't exactly feather fisted.

If Canelo wins this clean he's gotta be P4P #1 or #2 at the worst.

That being said, I think Kovalev kicks his ass.

Surprising. I think Canelo is and looks a lot stronger in the upper body and therefore would be stronger inside. We all knows he’s a better inside fighter. He’s also posses very impressive headmovement which takes a notch off the extremely impressive jab and straight right of Kov. This may make Kov reach and overextend. I do agree this is a good and challenging fight though, for both. In my opinion Canelo is a natural smw and this fight is akin to a very good potentially great fighter moving up to face an ageing champ. You might be right though, Kovalev might be too much for him. I’m really unsure at this time. I’ll wait to see the weigh in before making a prediction.

But this is good for boxing and is just flat out entertaining.

Yeah Canelo lands nice body punches but if he takes as many jabs and 1-2 to the face to land one as against GGG I think he will lose.

No statement or source has said anything about weight. This is a concern to me, as perhaps Kovalev has accepted a catchweight but has been instructed to say nothing about it.
