Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. I call it the way I see it. If some people think that was a 'masterclass boxing' ala Lennox Lewis, Ali or RJJ then that's fine. Joshua pretty much was trying to survive and not get clipped. It worked for him but for boxing fans was a dull-weak fight.

Also as a boxing fan I'm interested in action-packed fights like the HW division used to be, to entertain people. These fighters get paid very well and it's their assumed job.

Fought more like Hughie Fury or Billy Joe Saunders. With the exception of a few hard pot shots he had a total unwillingness to engage, horrible clinching and focused almost exclusively on that exit pivot out of range. Either Klitchko bro would've pulverised Ruiz into mush, not ran away like a chicken.
You’re on crack. You honestly believe Wlad would have fought any better? No chance in hell Wlad would have knocked out Ruiz, he would have held, spoiled, done his octopus impression, anything to fiddle through 12 rounds of pressure, which he hated. It would have been way uglier than AJ, who did a little holding but nothing on the scale of Wlad, who built his style around it.

You honestly think Wlad would have followed up on single shots enough to put Ruiz in trouble? He would barely let his right hand go at all.

As for Vitali, the guy’s lack of power meant he wouldn’t have come close to stopping Ruiz, he couldn’t even dent Chisora ffs, or finish off the corpse of Shannon Briggs.

Your hatred of AJ is making you misty eyed about Wladimir’s octopus reign of terror, while actually moaning about the very things Wlad did worse than anyone. Lol.

That's silly, both Klitchko's made mince meat of better fighters than Ruiz. AJ isn't at that level, he can't even clinch right, his jab is nowhere near it either. He was more elusive with his footwork in this fight than either Klitchko ever was though.

The worst thing about a performance like this, or BJS vs David Lemiuex, is listening to the faux-purist declare some kind of masterclass, as if the pinnacle of boxing is getting on your fvcking bike with little-to-no offensive effectiveness. Reminds me of big fat Hennessy declaring Hughie Fury's leg-it performance vs Pulev as "shades of Ali Liston".

lol true. Some people are so blinded by their own bias and they don't see that it was a mockery to boxing and a huge money grab show.

True. :TU:

Beating a semi-retired and washed up version of W.K it means just cherrypicking. Nothing more, nothing less.

That’s funny. Vitali never beat a guy better than Ruiz.

I guess Wlad beat a handful of guys better than Ruiz, but splattered few of them. And nobody close to the toughness of Ruiz.

Your central point moaning about how Wlad-like Joshua is while simultaneously praising Wlad is hilarious. Not sure you understand though.

Style makes fights right? You box to win right??

The way Joshua fought the first bout, especially after he hurt Ruiz, was more suited for Ruiz's style.. Had Joshua fought the same wreckless way, Ruiz would probably have won.

AJ adjusted, boxed well, wasn't really the best fight of the year, but he did what he had to do to win..

Right. Some people are making out that everyone is seeing the win as a masterclass, it wasn’t , it was just a good performance, AJ will draw a line under this style and move on, something Wlad never managed to do.

Fine, you don’t understand what running in a fight is. Go watch Nelson/Deleon, maybe that will help you understand what the f you’re talking about. Fighting on the back foot does not equal running.

Sanders was a far better fighter than Ruiz can ever be.

I don't think AJ faught much like Wlad at all, I don't recall Wlad ever being on his bike and circling & pivoting opponents, Wlad was always there for opponents if they wanted to get in range, they'd just eat a jab and get clinched on the way in. Sure he wasn't great to watch but his style was offensively effective,

I do give props to AJ though, im not a fan of his method of redemption, it stunk the joint out. His tyson-esque aura isn't the same either, legging it from a tougher guy who wanted a tear up. But i expected he wouldn't have the concentration , discipline, footwork and gas tank to simply stay out of range for 36 mins but he.proved me wrong. I hope he'll revert to type in the future though, I can't see him boxing like this against more diverse opponents.

Right. Night and day between Sanders and Ruiz

Ruiz would have toughed it out against Corrie’s power and stopped him late. Terrible matchup for sanders.

Just face it, you can’t stand AJ and have always looked for any excuse to discredit him, now you’re backpedalling when you realise you can’t criticise his negative tactics and simultaneously praise wlad’s infinitely more negative tactics (but sustained over half a career) and not look like an idiot.

You think Ruiz is better than Sanders!?

You should've just admitted you forgot Vitali battered Sanders and kept some credibility.

As for AJ, I'm not a fan of him, never have been, not a natural fighter imo and buckled against the first guy who could take his dig, then proceeded to get on his bike in the rematch, essentially an admition he can't hang with the chubby guy that's half his size. It's offensive to compare Wlad's style to AJ on his bike on Saturday. The Mayweather comparisons by the casuals is probably more accurate, remember his final round vs Berto? Apt.

I actually watched this fight 3 times now. First on a choppy stream then in HD and then to score it correctly and I enjoyed it. At first I was thinking the same thing, that he fought too safe but he actually did mix it up many times.

Yes I believe Ruiz is better than sanders was and would have put a lot of money on Andy outlasting Corrie in that one. If you don’t see how that fight plays out you’re probably not familiar with Corrie’s career.

“Can’t hang with a chubby guy half his size” how do you think these fights work? Were you fuming at the screen when Lennox didn’t stop Tua, or when Wlad didn’t stop Ibragimov, or when Vitali didn’t stop chisora?

You’re right, it is offensive to compare AJ’s style to Wlad. Offensive to AJ. You also seem to think AJ showing some movement is a negative when it’s actually a plus point compared to wlad’s parallel approach of throwing a jab and immediately reaching in for a cuddle, over half a career of fights. Joshua kept the holding to a minimum, boxed and moved, and probably only used these tactics for one fight, and he’s the villain 😂

I would argue that his performence was lacking because fat andy made it way too easy to just stick to the easy route.

In outboxing Andy there was as much patience, mobility, defence, and timing as we've seen from a HW lately. Good diversity from AJ, the guy who has knocked down/stopped all but 1 opponent can box too.

Won pretty much every round instead of losing it though. Though I must say, it is some feat to put on a masterful well-rounded boxing display yet still be down 5-1 :OhYes:
