Is Deontay Wilder really a good guy pretending to be bad ?

Post by ValMar »

I have changed my opinion, right now I think all his trash talking about a corpse has been just the media issue. What do you think ?

The media issue? What does that even mean bruh, I mean he did say it several times

I think he's not a really bad guy, just one of those who gets swaggy and loud when he's amped up. I don't know if he's all that good though, hard to know. Maybe I'll show up at his house one day and try to meet him and see what he does :maybe:

His reasons for getting into the sport are commendable and every fighter or trainer who has spent time with him on a personal level seem to have no bad words to say about him.

My take is that he is a decent bloke and doting family man just trying to create hype for himself in a country that doesn't care much for heavyweights these days.

Still find his loudmouth antics annoying personally, but I don't hold it against him too much.

There are far worse characters in boxing. Being loud and obnoxious aren't that bad, in the grand scheme of things.

he's got plenty of badness, or killer instinct. you can see him swinging for the fences even when his man is going down.

He's a bad man in the ring for sure. Away from the ring i think he's a decent guy. Just trying too hard to shock to create interest.

Wilder is cheating himself.
If he was humble and decent (no screaming and murder rap),
then the contrast to his destructive power would make everyone
love him. He'd be the babyface everybody wants to win.
Captain America
But he's playing the heel and that doesn't build a following.
He should look at the early Tyson model. He was a bad man
that everyone liked. Granted later he blew all that and went
crazy (biting etc.) But early folks loved him.
A bad guy doesn't sell as well in boxing. A good guy does.
That's why fans re-embraced Joshua so quickly.

Aren't we all good and bad?

With that said, I don't really care.

His trash-talking is definitely ghetto showmanship, but I dont consider Wilder a thug like Tyson or Broner.

To be fair to him he is trying to gain a US following but the reality is Americans are living in a bygone era still obsessed with the past :

Mike Tyson
Evander Holyfield
Riddick Bowe

even Tommy Morrison is getting publicity RIP .

We loved Lennox Lewis too. It's the type of HW champ we Americans love to follow. Lewis cleaned out a division and was undisputed.

True .
However during his fighting career the American audience always had a bit of an issue with his dual British / Canadian status

Seems to me that the Brits were the ones with that issue. USA didn't give a fk.
