Maybe Helenius takes Fres' spot as the guy forever waiting for his mandatory. Maybe he'll wind up going to court about it

Come to think of it.

Helenius vs Fres for the Interim title. Problem solved. 2 birds with one stone
Your killing me
Ya had to mention Fres...
Na mate, Helenius can probably smell the sweet smell of step aside money already :OhYes:
What's funny is those thoughts really did come to my head in that exact order as I was typing. "Hey maybe he's the new Fres"..."Hey maybe he should FIGHT Fres"

Finally Kownacki gets exposed. Can't believe this fight was a title eliminator.

I don't think it was a final eliminator for the mandatory position. Surely, it would have had more fanfare. Everything online says WBA title eliminator.

I found just mentioning him funny.
In the great scheme of the HW division over the last 4 years- no one, no one mentions Fres
Your Fres, aren't you ;-)

Missed that right hand knockdown for sure..
Do some states still use replay?
Awful. He might have cost Kownacki the fight, if he got a count for the first KD he might not have walked hurt into the next big shot.

Probably would have helped if Kownacki hadn't rushed to get to his feet both times

No. He got beat. This is a term that gets way overused, and frankly never really fits. It usually just annoys me. He got "exposed" what does that even mean? Were we supposed to have thought Kownacki was invincible until he lost?

Anybody that knows Boxing could see Kownacki's weaknesses as they were fairly obvious. Him getting caught by a big puncher in a slugfest isn't some revelation of a weakness that we didn't previously know existed. It was just Kownacki being Kownacki, and losing a fight.

totally agree. terms like "exposed" tends to flatten the discussion, words like those try to position itselfs as an axiom or definitive truth. to avoid using them leaves room for more interesting explanations. :TU:

haven't watched it yet but that's certainly an upset of sorts.

credit to Helenius, he's had an up and down career.

It's worth a watch. Just finished it now. You can see Helenius start realising that every shot he throws will land in the 2nd/3rd and gets more confident.

It was inevitable that Kownacki would eventually get caught boxing with his head that exposed but I thought it would be someone of a better calibre than Helenius. Maybe Helenius should look at a rematch against Washington as it's winnable?

Nah, Helenius is awful. Just watched highlights, his crazy movement makes Vitali look like Mayweather. F'n insane to be boxing so long and still have day 1, amateur defense. Thought they were going to KO each other and maybe a drunken Polish woman jumps in the ring and beats on them both with one of her heels.

sure there's an explanation for it, but right after the fight was over, there were three 3! votes for helen by k.o., if you look now 7, by the time i'm done writing it may be 10 people who voted for helenius by knockout, wouldn't make sense to continue backdoor voting for a fight from yesterday??? cheaters everywhere.

They cheated themselves only.

BTW, I can remember the times when I had predicted that Helenius would be the heir of the Klitschko brothers.
It had been maybe ten years ago, but I don't want to dig up on the interenet to see the exact year.
So, something gone wrong (injuries, mismanaging, faxtor x)with Helenius. Right now, it's too late for him.
I hope, he will get the opportunity for the decent pay-day.

Helenius did look awful, but he still won. Robert was talking about using boxing skills to win. I didn't see any boxing skills but I saw a fair puncher. He looked like a very bad version of Deontay Wilder.

AJ has found his next defence, then. Any excuse to avoid Fury & the Bronze Bomber.

A great job by Helenius. I'm glad for him, cause I've always being following him despite his inconsistency. He was falling apart from time to time, when he was hurt by opponents, but this time he didn't decline under pressure and counteracted well. Kownacki was in his regular fashion, trying to maul down an opponent relying on own durability other than defence. Helenius punished Adam for that. Helenius is around the top 10 again. He's still credible for sure.

Hopefully Helenius doesn't get a title shot after this. He's very much in the same boat as Martin now. Haymon somehow maneuvered them both into undeserved eliminators (although Kownacki was probably the real target recipient of the eliminator) and now they're theoretically mandatories even though nobody in the world wants to see them fight AJ or Fury.

Maybe we can get Martin vs. Helenius now as an extra double super duper final eliminator.
