Wilder and Fury are entertaining but they both should come with a disclaimer: Not to be taken seriously when out of the ring.
Re: Devin Haney said he'd 'never let a white boy' beat him
Wilder is like the Trump of Boxing. NO matter the thread, it ends up being about him! LMFAO!margaret thatcher wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 19:11 Everyone is deranged, Wilder over getting his weighed down butt whooped, his fanbois and flopgaters, and the haters too. Deontay drive everyone mad![]()

Pretty sure it would've been the "Hail Black Jesus, Hail Black Moses" bit that people would've found particularly provocative.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 18:58 It was black history month, I don't think it was a big deal either, the song wasn't saying to go out and slaughter white guys

Trying to make a name for himself off the backs of whites! Ironic considering he's got one of the whitest names I've ever heard, which I've barely heard of at that. Never watched a fight of his and never will. And you can always count on the internet race detectives in full blind force on the case, like Columbo waltzing around with two glass eyes.
Tank showed how to avoid Loma already. Zero intent in fighting a peak version. Doubt Loma sticks around long enough to be cherry picked, as he seems to despise the politics of the pros, and rightfully so. Most corrupt sport in the world.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 15:11 I am guessing Loma is too young to be considered a boy yet, because he would beat Haney now.
Haney needs to follow a well known pattern (Floyd,Canelo) of not fighting top opponents in their prime and wait till Loma is old enough to be considered a beatable boy.

I think Gilgamesh raises an important point, but I think people on here trying to reframe the discussion as to whether or not this is Wilder's fault is just noise. I would also agree Wilder has never said anything overtly racist, but he is very comfortable to use imagery and rhetoric that appeals to a certain section of his fan base. (I guess it's similar to the issue a lot of people had with Trump and the Alt-right).
78sportsTV = LDBC
LDBC = an online community constantly pushing racial narratives of us against them.
78sportsTV = LDBC = glovegate
So to say "I would never let a white boy beat him" or whatever on the channel that he did is an obvious dog whistle to try and get support from that channel's core audience.
Btw I agree with others, you are entitled to be proud of your own race all you want.
But let's not get away from the issue:
Put in context, it's racist rhetoric from Haney.
An rough equivalent would be a young white WBC champion going on an channel affiliated with the alt-right and saying similar crap.
So it's a big no from me.
For me though that is where the problem with that Haney Interview lies:gilgamesh wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 15:27 I actually read back through the thread, and still can't really put my finger on what the f*ck just happened with you two
The Wilder-Fury rematch never really seemed to have a racial component to the hype around it until the exact moment Wilder walked out to the ring with the song he chose, and the reaction of a certain portion of the fanbase after the fight as a result of all that.
The 1st fight really wasn't promoted in that way in the slightest that I recall, and it was never brought up in the rematch until Wilder's ring entrance kinda forced the thought into your mind.

Wilder is beyond reproach. Like a 21st century version of Ward Cleaver.
Re: Devin Haney said he'd 'never let a white boy' beat him
Yeah if the shoe was on the other foot, and a White boxer was saying "I'd never let a Black man beat me" or any other race for that matter. It'd be treated as if he just hocked a loogey on the Baby Jesus.Finkel wrote: ↑18 Apr 2020, 04:38 I think Gilgamesh raises an important point, but I think people on here trying to reframe the discussion as to whether or not this is Wilder's fault is just noise. Ya there would be all sorts of 'freedom marches' and 'white neo colonial privilege' commentary wouldnt there
I wonder why hispanics don't get more 'racial' attention and headlines in the usa, they are the largest minority group and have been even more excluded from movie awards than blacks have

Oh who knows what colour they were? I don't care. People can think they're Chinese. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't say in the bible what colour he was. It says something about him having hair like wool and being dark skinned, right? BLACK! Pfft. Unless you're some sort of scholar in Biblical Hebrew, you've got no idea what it says in there.gilgamesh wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 20:16Pretty sure it would've been the "Hail Black Jesus, Hail Black Moses" bit that people would've found particularly provocative.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 18:58 It was black history month, I don't think it was a big deal either, the song wasn't saying to go out and slaughter white guys
I don't like really old books.
Can we stop the 'race war' now? Seeing as nobody's going to be fighting anything expect maybe a nasty virus any time soon, can't we just ignore this? I don't actually know who he is. I'm assuming he's a little bloke?
Re: Devin Haney said he'd 'never let a white boy' beat him
Devin Haney, the 21st version of Thurgood Marshall apologized for what he said and that he is no racist. So let's just move on. Nothing to see here.
I know it's appalling for a boxer to say something stupid. It's never happened before Devin, Billy Joe Saunders notwithstanding.

Problem with this racism is that nobody cares about Devin Haney and nobody cares about Vassily Lomachenko so this isnt somehow going to translate into bigger bucks or a larger star for Devin.
