Someone's got to do it, the quicker the better.

Knowing fast Eddie Hearn and his Matchroom team this Parker v Browne will be signed and ready to go whilst everyone else is still waiting the results of their Covid test return.

Might as well be in New Zealand, darkly lit so you don't see the crowd (lack of). Canned crowd applause as in boxing games could also be another idea. I'd definitely watch it, seeing how Browne's a real go forward fighter.

As for Browne's previous clenbuterol test failure, it must have been some dodgy kangaroo meat. The ostarine one could have been dodgy Koala milkshake. It's not Lucas' fault he isn't big enough a name to get test exemptions. 😃

Anyway it's another overdue fight, another one that should have happened years ago. Heck, Hatman was talking about this way back in Nov 2017.

This would have been a good match 3 years ago maybe 4 in fact it was crying out to be made. That ship has not only sailed it's now out of sight over the horizon. I wouldn't cross the street to watch it now, never mind pay good money.

Fair enough but Fury could have been awarded a win over Parker even if he was on his bike almost exclusively. In pure boxing terms i.e. punches landed - forget who's making the fight and on the front foot. If you saw team Parker awaiting the verdict it's clear they were expecting the decision to go Hughie's way.

I wouldn't argue your preference for Delboy but I think you can make a case for either. Both acquit themselves well against high level opposition without actually beating them, and in a head-to-head Hughie is just the type Delboy has trouble with.

Actually that's a fight I'd quite like to see.
Chisora could also have a win over Whyte if we are going that route, not to mention the rest of his actual resume which is very superior to Hughie's. I mean one of Hughie's standout wins is over a guy Del already KO'd twice like 10 years ago lol.

Hughie is a master of jabbing the air and boring the fans, I'll give you that. He'd probably do that on his way to losing another decision if he faced Delster.

Hughie is roughly a top 20-25 fighter for me, I'd prob have Del around the lower top 10-12 area
What is your obsession with Sam Sexton? He was British champion and a perfectly legitimate target for a young heavyweight, and make no mistake, Hughie is a young heavyweight, psychologically younger than his 25 years in my opinion. In many ways he strikes me as but a callow youth, albeit one who can be relied on not to get wiped out by experienced contender level opposition. If heavyweights mature late he could be a hell of a lot better five or six years from now with maybe another five or six years ahead of him at that point. Emphasis on "could".

Yes, Delboy has a better resumé, but he's 36 years old, so unless he'd been sat around scratching his arse for the last eleven years then you'd expect that wouldn't you?

Opinions are like arseholes - everyone's got one, as the saying goes. You are fully entitled to yours (opinion that is although no one could deny your right either way :D )

I think you overrate Dereck a little, and underrate Hughie. I wouldn't argue with anyone rating Dereck above Hughie based on resumé to date, but I think it would be an interesting match. Hughie is nothing if not a mover, and anyone with even half your knowledge knows a boxer who can move is kryptonite to Delboy.

I'm not saying my opinion is necessarily better than yours but it does spring from a genuine affection for both men. Can you honestly say the same?

Ya, no doubt Chis's resume is vastly better, that can be agreed on. Hughie's not won much of note at all

Hughie's approach vs anyone half decent has been to flick air jabs from too far away (scared of contact?), and he looks mentally shakey too, going into a shell just because of some blood. It's not a matter of affection or not, not like I have some personal grudge against Hughie, it's just me giving more credit to the guy who has done a lot better of the two and who I think would win if they fought. Watch Hughie just prance and feint around with nothing but air jabs yet again. Maybe you like that though.

Hughie hasn't shown the slightest bit of improvement or change in his approach either btw, not every one who turns pro at his age just keeps progressing into their late 20s and 30s. Some guys are just stuck in their ways. He's been a pro for 7 years now and came from a boxing family, he's been in the game a long time in reality.

Parker could probably stop him if he's more aggressive.

Yes I agree. Parker seems to be growing into his body more since my original post and Browne hasn't looked good at all. I would fancy a Parker KO if this goes ahead later this year

Australian heavyweight Demsey McKean calls out Joseph Parker

Undefeated Australian heavyweight Demsey McKean wants to face Joseph Parker, insisting he is a bigger threat than compatriot Lucas Browne.

While international fights are on hold due to the global coronavirus pandemic, there are whispers that Australia and New Zealand could reopen their borders sooner rather than later as both countries have seen relatively minimal effects from the deadly virus.

McKean 18-0 (12) believes he has the style to defeat former WBO heavyweight champion Parker 27-2 (21).

“I’m very blessed to be talked about even fighting Joseph Parker. It has been crazy, my phone is going wild and every day I am getting messages on social media about this fight,” the 6-foot-6 Queensland southpaw told Boxing News Now.

“It definitely is the fight that the Australian public is demanding and I’m sure New Zealand boxing fans would much rather see Parker in a real fight against a live opponent than against a washed-up fighter.

“I am definitely a live opponent and I would argue the most live opponent in the Oceania region right now.

“I think this fight makes a lot of sense and it would be a fantastic fight for Australia and New Zealand. I have a great team led by Angelo Di Carlo and I trust them to do everything in their power to make the fight happen.”

The potential fight could take place as early as August.

“I believe the fight is a close fight. Parker has struggled with southpaws before so that would give me the advantage, to begin with,” McKean continued.

“I believe I am far beyond the level of those fighters he has clashed with in the past and I believe that my record proves that.

“I don’t want to disrespect Joseph in any way, he is a great fighter and he has done wonderful things for boxing in the Oceania region as a whole. I just think I would cause him all sorts of issues and I don’t have an ounce of quit in me.

“If it turned into a brawl I would brawl if I have too. If I have to stick to my boxing to win, I can do that as well.”

So McKean reckons he'd be a tougher test for Parker than Lucas Browne. I don't disbelieve him, in fact I'd probably go so far as to say Joe Goodall or Justis Huni would be a tougher test for Parker than the 2020 version of Lucas Browne despite their having respectively negligible and no professional experience to date.

I like Lucas and don't want to disrespect him but he's done now and is just trading on his name. I'd expect casual Aussies to maybe be taken in by the hype, but anybody who cares enough about boxing to even visit this forum, I'd expect them to regard a 2020 Parker v Browne fight as a great steaming t*rd.

A great fight a few years back, mind. It didn't happen because when Browne was a contender/title holder why would he want to fight dangerous, little known, up and coming, Joe Parker for little reward? Then when Parker won the WBO strap he didn't need a dangerous opponent who would only be a big fight in the Antipodes, who hadn't done him any favours when he wanted the fight, and especially when he could make vastly more money fighting high risk opponents in London.

Wise words. I used to do that regularly but lately I've grown complacent as it was looking like a thing of the past since adding more memory / storage.

Browne was recently knocked down by Kamil Sokolowski. Sokolowski has losing record but is way better than it suggests. He is typical mercenary for testing prospects and "give me rounds fighter" and still managed to knock Browne down.

Parker keeps his ass out of real big names last 2 years.

Parker-McKean is more than solid though.

How do you see McKean chances? I do not think his "style" (style is too big of a word) would match perfectly (swarmer is better receipe for Parker IMO) but being southpaw and hungry could give him at leas a chance.

Slim chance. At least he'll be in shape and not old and knackered like Lucas. On the other he was fortunate to squeeze past Johnnie Rice, and Rice is levels below Parker - even a post-reality-check Parker.

McKean is the Heavyweight Champion of Australia. You've heard of Australia, right?

That means Demsey McKean is the top Heavyweight out of a country with a population exceeding 23 million. Now he may not have AJ getting all nervous and fretful, but I'd say that is deserving of a measure of respect, not awe, but certainly more than "who the hell is he?"

Mate I'm Australian, and have hardly heard of mckean, If you want people to know who you are you gotta fight meaningfull fights.... Also dont think he is the aus heavyweight champ, i think thats Faiga Opelu is.

Also Having a country title dosent mean your the best in said country. Fury or AJ arnt brittish champ.. Parker isnt NZ champ, ect. World levle people dont fight for National belts. they work for world titles.

I thought he beat Willie Nasio for the title. Of course I could look it up. Maybe I'm being unreasonable but while I wouldn't expect the average Aussie to know who was, I thought the users of this forum would. Anyway now you know so no need for anymore "who the hell is he?" like he's a third rate bum.

I know who he is. But only because im Australian and his most recent fight was a step up. i knew his name befor rice, but cant say i knew anything about him. would have had to look up to know if he was southpaw or that he was tall.

I think non Australians have 100s of boxers to remember before mckean. I mean he isnt in boxrecs top 500 P4P... so he has work to do before he is a house hold name overseas....

I take your point Greg. I have never gotten used to my wife's lack of knowledge about where places are, even places she's been to. I mean I just can't get my head around what her mental map of the world must look like.

On the other hand she knows stuff I haven't a clue about, and it's probably a damn sight more useful than knowing Boise is the state capital of Idaho.

I think I have a tendency to expect people to know what I know (even though I don't know what they know) My wife calls it arrogance.

Yeah. I get people are missing their fix of live boxing, but this gives us an opportunity to watch or re-watch fights and fighters of the past, and to watch fights from my youth that relied purely on the power of the printed word and a lot of imagination on my part.

Now I can see with my own eyes, it's great. Thank the Gods for You-tube, eh?
