Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time
I wonder if being American-Irish like Ward would've helped. Between McGuigan and Frampton it feels like Collins, McCullough and Magee flew under the radar in England. Neary was hyped by Sky.
Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time
Collins was a much bigger name than Frampton. My mum and nan probably know Steve Collins and wouldn't have heard of Frampton
Nigel Benn was a whole other level though

Umm, okay? I guess Roy's manager lied to John Scully then? I'd appreciate you not talking crap like this and using unwarranted personal insults, thanks
If true and they aren't lying, as you might suggest (who are you, by the way??) Collins priced himself out massively by asking for that sort of money, -3mill was fantasy money

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time
Collins by his own admission was passed his best at super middle too. And being floored by an unknown part-time fireman in his final fight must have been a clear signal to call it a day too. The Jones fight would have been a horrible mismatch, and probably Collins knew this but couldn’t resist chancing his arm. He never seemed very close to ever being made as a fight.
Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time
Collins changes his mind alot, before saying he sssysg his best at supermidd
Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time
The hateful game. It's a good read. Saying post interview I want RJJ, and actually negotiating a fight are two different things. I don't remember there ever being serious talks of RJJ travelling in his career prior tarver Johnson ko's.Isaax wrote: ↑26 Jun 2020, 06:40Funny that because Benn was offered much bigger money to fight Leonard in US than Eubank in UK, and close Eubank expecting to beat himSteveh583 wrote: ↑25 Jun 2020, 17:33
Benn and eubank have both admitted they were happy making big bucks being the big fish in a small pond. A case could easily made that neither was the best in the UK again stage of their careers (both admit to avoiding Graham early on, Watson could stake a claim to being superior in their pomp, Collins towards the end). They we both world class, but basically big domestic draws.
He also wanted RJJ is the US, whereas RJJ wanted Benn in London -that's what they couldn't agree!
Not sure where you get your quotes

We've all read that and those quotes aren't in there. It's written by a journalist nobody.
You might want to check out Dark Trade, in which RJJ says his dream was to fight in London since the day he attended Watson-Benn in 89 and experienced that atmosphere (when NBC had wanted to build a Benn-RJJ fight/rivalry) and calls out the unbeaten Eubank saying he'll fight him anywhere.

How could Benn negotiate a fight when he was contracted to Don King (and RJJ to HBO) and a professional boxer, not a businessman.

You dismiss one book written by journalist by referencing another book written by a journalist....outstanding. At that time RJJ could have fought anyone he liked in the world, anywhere he wanted. He didn't travel and was a notorious homebody. History doesn't lie. When did he fight abroad prior to getting KO'd regularly? He wouldn't even unify vs Darius ffsGreg Nicholas wrote: ↑27 Jun 2020, 04:31 We've all read that and those quotes aren't in there. It's written by a journalist nobody.

Excuse me but Eubank himself said he didn't want that fight when he was champion, as it was a kind of suicide, another Watson 2 or Benn McClellan thing possiblySteveh583 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2020, 04:43You dismiss one book written by journalist by referencing another book written by a journalist....outstanding. I think RJJ had scars from Seoul, he'd fight Toney/Eubank but not fight in Germany. And Eubank had scars from Watson 2, he'd fight in Germany but not defend against RJJ/Toney (unless it was maybe his last fight).

Barkley vs Froch and Toney vs Calzaghe --
Truth hurts, lads.

Re: Carl Froch's Top Five Super-Middleweights Of All Time
But who did Jones need to travel to fight 1993-2003? The US was at the time the home of big time boxing and he was the most feared and respected name in all his divisions. It would have been great if he fought Darius but ultimately his record didn't need it. Darius beat Nicky Piper for a second division title, stayed at home defending against RJ leftovers until losing to a man Jones routed 12-0 with KDs on top.Steveh583 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2020, 04:43You dismiss one book written by journalist by referencing another book written by a journalist....outstanding.
