Witherspoon had a clever defence and a good jab which would stand him in good stead against the big punching Shavers.
Shavers had stamina issues.

Witherspoon by late stoppage or points.

Agreed, and Tim had the chin to withstand anything Shavers threw at him.

Bonecrusher Smith would strongly disagree.

Witherspoon was on the other level in comparison to Shavers. Although Shavers' clean punch could easly provide lights out for Tim. Anyway, Witherspoon had enough skills and power to outbox and KO Shavers. I'd pick Tim to score a KO.

Shavers wasn't that bad. He'd have a fair shot of stopping Tim.

I didn't want to describe him as particularly bad and he would have that shot indeed, but overall he clearly wasn't in the Witherspoon's class, that's my point.

I don't think it's that clear. The Shavers that faced Holmes in the second fight was far better than the one who lost to Lyle.

Shavers' success in the second Holmes fight was him finally getting to Holmes, but nothing more really, Earnie got outboxed there again.

Tim far too much of a cute defense and wins inside 10. Always a chance with shavers but tim a confident pick for me.

You could just as easily say that was a different Smith.
If shavers lands one of his bombs, Witherspoon would be in serious trouble.

Of course, he isn't. But he even had a better overall performance against Holmes in comparison to Shavers.

Holmes was 34 when he faced spoon and 30 (prime) when he met Shavers. In addition, "styles." Can't triangulate sir.

Witherspoon could take a real good shot. Earnie wasn't flooring everybody.

Nonsense. He may have been unprepared, as he often wasn't, but he was hurt from the first punch.

Smith just rolled over him, similar to what he done to Weaver.

Your right, Shavers wasn't flooring everyone; nobody does. Occasionally he got out boxed, didn't finish the guy off, or was nailed himself before he could nail the other guy.
However, Shavers was a much harder puncher than Smith. Maybe Witherspoon survives if it was a the end of the round or something; Shavers was not a great finisher.

However, if Shavers lands one of his haymakers, Witherspoon would be in big trouble.

I could see Tim in trouble in the right circumstances, like maybe post-Smith. But prime Tim, I think could deal.
