Re: Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr
the bout will barely resemble a fight after the rules and regulations were announced
No judges. No knockouts. No winner.
Mike Tyson's fight with Roy Jones Jr has quickly descended into a farce following yesterday's announcement.
The ring legends, who have a combined age of 105, are set to touch gloves in Los Angeles on September 12.
They will fight over eight rounds in what has been termed an exhibition bout.
The fight will be broadcast on pay-per-view and will feature a YouTube star against a former NBA player on the undercard.
But when all is said and done, fans will be asking just what the point was.
Because although Tyson and Jones will not wear headguards, they will be encouraged not to knock each other out.
In fact, if the referee decides one of these faded legends is trying to do just that, he can stop the fight.
And if they do hear the final bell, it will matter not, as there will be no ringside judges to score the contest.
"Tyson and Jones Jr won’t be wearing headgear for the fight," California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster told Boxing Scene.
"They’ll be lacing up 12-ounce gloves and there won’t be any judges present at the fight to score the action.
"So, technically there won’t be a winner unless a knockout somehow occurs or either fighter is deemed unfit to continue.
"They can move around and make some money, but I told them, 'If you get cut, it’s over'."
And Foster also clarified to Sky Sports that the official can step in to stop the fight if they become over-eager.
"In this match, the referee will have the authority to stop the fight if it strays outside the boundaries of a competitive boxing exhibition," he said.
"Mr. Tyson and Mr. Jones Jr will have to submit all CSAC medical tests for fighters over 40 as well as CSAC's emergency regulations that have been put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19."

Everyone can calm down now..
Re: Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr
Seems quite strange to see Jones relegated to the b-side role of a fight. I don't think many of the non-specialist-in-boxing sports broadcasters / presenters have a clue who he is or how good he was.
Re: Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr
Underlines the Greatness of Foreman and Holmes. At roughly the same age they signed for what would have been a twelve round donnybrook. Tyson can't stand up for eight rounds in a real fight and Jones can't take or avoid a real punch anymore.
Re: Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr
It's just a WWE type of thing.
It might as well have JR and Jerry Lawler doing the commentary. Maybe Lennox could run in halfway through and hit Mike on the head with a steel chair.

Re: Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr
Yep - just a money grab by both guys. Fleecing the casuals ..
I guess it's a new alternative to paying to get your photo taken with them at an after dinner show and putting the pic on your desk in the belief others will think you personally know the guy.
In this instance it's to say they seen them both 'fight' live .. not mentioning that it was over 20yrs since they were at their peaks

Re: Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr
IF IT WAS REAL FIGHT then I imagine Roy relies too much on reactions and hand speed, and Mike always had incredibly tight technique. At the age they’re both at, there’s a load more variables, but I just think Mike’s style and age will age better.
Having said that, this all seems a bit money money WWE for my tastes.

Fanboy nonsense
Re: Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr
Jones should have Mitch 'Blood' Green ringside as his manager to interfere any time Tyson is winning. He could blind Tyson by flinging some jeri curl juice in his eyes

What Mayweather said,
"I think that we seem to forget about who was the pioneer of making exhibition bouts huge. Joe, a lot of times we forget about certain things. I mean, I think that it’s gonna be very interesting. I’m not here to say Tyson’s gonna win, I’m not here to say Roy’s gonna win. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be entertaining, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna watch it," Mayweather told rapper Fat Joe during an Instagram Live interview.
“I don’t know if I can go because I don’t think there’s gonna be any audience at that particular time. But, may the best man win.”
Like he invested exhibitions..

It's gonna be $49.99
Re: Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr
I understand that we all need to move with the ever changing times and sport is no different but Boxing is becoming more like a sideshow as the months goes by. How can it be right that top quality boxers at the peak of their careers earn nothing like the money their talents deserve, and yet a couple of youtubers can earn a small fortune when they can't even throw a decent jab? Its a jokeRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Jul 2020, 04:55 The only confirmed fight on the undercard is between social media influencer and YouTube sensation Jake Paul and former NBA star Nate Robinson.

I wonder how Eubank Sr feels about this, considering Jones is supposed to be his fighters full-time trainer!

A lot of folks talking like this is an actual fight, you do know this is just a move around?
