He didn't dominate but he definitely gave him a whoopin. Nothing silly about that. It was a masterclass in infighting. What Leonard learned was there was nothing he couldn't take. Served him well down an eye against a better boxer. Ray was a bad man, just second best this night.

Without this loss I don't think ray beats Hearns...he proved he could take it and go the distance while hurt and fight gamely..had to dig deep against Hearns..

Agreed. This was a tough, closely contest fight. With some notable exceptions, most of what Duran landed was glancing blows, punches on the shoulder, punches on the break etc.
Leonard landed more clean punches. It's not like Leonard never landed any body punches and hooks himself inside either.
It's not a "whoopin" if you can't even find 8 rounds that Duran won clearly.

I scored it 144-140 for Duran. 9 rounds to 6 with the 2nd Round 10-8 for Duran.
I certainly could find two close rounds that I gave Duran that could have gone the other way and made it a draw at 142-142. Would not be that hard to score it for Leonard. elmer scored it for Duran by 3 points but somehow calls it a "whoopin".

Leonard remembered as he pissed blood for 2 weeks. The most hurt he ever was in his career. The second and, I believe, the 9tg rounds he was fortunate to get rocked late in the round or the decision might not be discussed.
