What in the world is that supposed to mean? In a world where guys have lost every round and got a decision, no it wouldn't be top 100, it still would have been wrong.

When guys say Duran won the fight I don't argue the point, it's when they say he dominated, dished out a whoopin', took Leonard to school, etc is when I have to tell them they're just being silly.

They, like the American media, don't want their guy look bad from the ass whupping that Duran gave him.

He didn't dominate but he definitely gave him a whoopin. Nothing silly about that. It was a masterclass in infighting. What Leonard learned was there was nothing he couldn't take. Served him well down an eye against a better boxer. Ray was a bad man, just second best this night.

Without this loss I don't think ray beats Hearns...he proved he could take it and go the distance while hurt and fight gamely..had to dig deep against Hearns..

The American media (and fans for that matter) have been more fair to foreign fighters that what is typical.

Agreed. This was a tough, closely contest fight. With some notable exceptions, most of what Duran landed was glancing blows, punches on the shoulder, punches on the break etc.
Leonard landed more clean punches. It's not like Leonard never landed any body punches and hooks himself inside either.
It's not a "whoopin" if you can't even find 8 rounds that Duran won clearly.

Duran himself said Leonard was the toughest opponent he ever faced after Montreal, the judges had it by 1-1-2 pts, that's not a whuppin'.

:TU: i can't recall those extended segments of the fight, with Leonard on the ropes and Duran hitting him with like 15-punch unanswered combinations for like 30 seconds at a time, without thinking

'bro, that's a fucken ass-whooping'

I scored it 144-140 for Duran. 9 rounds to 6 with the 2nd Round 10-8 for Duran.
I certainly could find two close rounds that I gave Duran that could have gone the other way and made it a draw at 142-142. Would not be that hard to score it for Leonard. elmer scored it for Duran by 3 points but somehow calls it a "whoopin".

Leonard remembered as he pissed blood for 2 weeks. The most hurt he ever was in his career. The second and, I believe, the 9tg rounds he was fortunate to get rocked late in the round or the decision might not be discussed.

would you say that leonard won the rounds he won as emphatically- or even nearly as emphatically- as Duran won his?

because getting your ass whooped in most of 9 rounds, and just managing to win 6 rounds ... is an ass-whooping.
