John Conteh turned pro in October 1971 and won British, Commonwealth, European and world light-heavyweight titles by October 1974.
Charlie Magri won the British flyweight title six weeks after turning pro.

Within 2 years he fought for the IBO but Carl Thompson a stop to Haye run so back to the drawing board. Took him 3 years to get The EBU and it was another 2 years to win the WBC and WBA.

Paul weir was my first thought but there was dearth of talent at the weight, particularly in Europe.

Paul was a world-beater but he turned his back on John L. Gardner simply to blow his nose and everyone assumed he had surrendered and entered the ring. ;-)

Josh Taylor, especially in terms of success and achievement.

Prograis, Baranchyk, Martin and Postol in his last 4 fights :oo

4 years and 16 fights and he's a unified champion. Taylor's march to the top has been incredible :box:

By far it was Rod Douglas. After 13 fights and barely any rounds, Duff chucked him in a 12-rounder with WBC #1 Herol Graham, who'd just taken the great Mike McCallum to a split dec for the WBA title. He wanted Douglas in the mix with Benn and Watson ASAP (££) and tried leapfrogging Hearn's Eubank to a faster route. It was disgraceful.

Duff even blamed the referee afterwards, Billy Rafferty, which was just as disgraceful. Naturally, Duff makes no mention of this match in his biography.

Probably the most famous man in boxing just now, Anthony Joshua, has done ok. First Amatuer fight at 18, only 40 amatuer fights later and he turns pro at 24. 2 and 1/2 years after turning pro he is world champ. 3 & 1/2 years later he beats Klitschko.

On the UK scene, Taylors rise is very impressive.

Shhhh wrote: 01 Aug 2020, 09:18 Britain is the most reserved place when it comes to matching prospects. Even USA can say Pete Rademacher when straight in at the top. Loads of Thai and East Euro prospects go in deep early.
Quite a few of the Thai's had been top Muay Thai contenders(even champions) before they switched to boxing though.

Fast paced int eh UK tends to be 15 fights to a World title. Obviously the lower weights can get there much quicker.

The recent years ones I remember thinking of were Charlie Edwards being slung in in his 9th fight. James Degale won British within 10 as well didn’t he?

Yeah that's right, he absolutely hammered Smith. I saw that one live, as Groves' Commonwealth win in his 9th fight.

Ten years ago now, where's the time go?
