If Canelo really wants this belt, it may be on Uncle Al's terms..
DAZN, who Canelo is supposed to be exclusive to, have said no to the fight.. Can't justify paying soo much.. The whole point of the huge contract was that he fight top names.. Which he should..
Avni's manager Ahmet Oner has contacted Al Haymon in regards to negotiations..
If the fight was was to go to purse bids, then Avni's team will try to secure it and take it to Showtime..
Let's see if Canelo thanks Al at the end of the fight, like most boxers do..
Canelo has an exclusive contract with DAZN.
If his team engages in the purse bid and is outbid by Yildrim's handlers that work with Showtime, the Mexican would renege on his contract with DAZN, leaving himself viable for a lawsuit.
We’ve seen similar situations like this before, such as when Gennadiy Golovkin and Sergey Kovalev both withdrew from purse bids, due to their exclusive contracts with HBO preventing them from competing on Showtime against Al Haymon fighters like Peter Quillin and Adonis Stevenson.
So I don’t expect Canelo to risk a multi-million-dollar lawsuit by participating in any purse bids that could potentially result in him competing on Showtime (at least whilst he’s contractually tied with DAZN).
The problem that GBP has is DAZN’s reluctance to abide by the terms of their eleven-fight $365m+ long-term deal with Canelo.
DAZN doesn’t want to pay Canelo his $33½m guarantee per bout. And DAZN has refused to sanction several names GBP have provided them with for the 12th September fight-date.
Simply put, DAZN wants the Mexican to accept a pay cut, but there is a contract in place that they themselves drew up and agreed to.
So Canelo is forced to remain inactive whilst DAZN continues to refuse to sanction any of his opponents. Who is he going to fight?
GGG himself, by his own admission, states that he’s not interested in facing Canelo next. He prefers to face Kamil Szeremeta instead, but that bout hasn’t been organised yet, despite the fact a deal has supposedly been in place since mid-October.
So what’s the hold-up for GGG’s bout? Does DAZN have the funds to pay Golovkin the guarantee that is part of the Kazakh’s $100m+ multi-fight deal?
Three of DAZN's biggest stars, Canelo, Golovkin and Anthony Joshua, don't have dates for their next bouts.
And if there aren’t any official announcements of their next fights by mid-September, then this could result in all three of these guys being inactive for more than an entire calendar year.
