Why is DLH waiting till next year to fight
Why? He already had a long rest after the Hopkins fight.

It will cost him against Mayweather.
Or is DLH not really what he used to be like Mosley and Vargas?

That's right & September 16th is Mexican Independance day so those are the 2 biggest dates in the Mexican calendar so he's only looking to box on one of them.stujones wrote:Thats the one.Mattyp151 wrote:5/5/07...Cinco de Mayo...big latin (Mexican?) holiday.stujones wrote:There is something also about the May date that DLH is planning.... That also gives him time heal numerous nagging injuries and last but not least, a chance for public demand to build for the fight, much like Leonard did when he delayed his megafight against Hagler!Mattyp151 wrote:5/5/07...Cinco de Mayo...big latin (Mexican?) holiday.stujones wrote:There is something also about the May date that DLH is planning.... Stu - I always go to Vegas for Cinco de Mayo. Always a huge fight on and Vegas is hooching with Jennifer Lopez lookalikes. I thoroughly recommend itstujones wrote:Thats the one.Mattyp151 wrote:5/5/07...Cinco de Mayo...big latin (Mexican?) holiday.stujones wrote:There is something also about the May date that DLH is planning.... This will be the biggest non-heavyweight title fight in history I think. Oscar's last fight (more than likely), 5th May, against the man many consider P4P top dog, this will be absolutely huge, Oscar has already participated in 4 out of 5 of the top PPV's ever, this one could possibly be bigger than even Holyfield v Tyson II.

Oscar can obviously not motivate himself for those fights, and they are a big risk, at this stage of his career, someone like Ouma, Karmazin et al might well beat him. Oscar was never a big light middleweight, and the physical advantages he holds over Mayweather, or a crude brawling welter like Mayorga, simply wouldn't be there against Ouma.
Oscar is doing the right thing, why jeapordize what I think is going to be the biggest fight in history for a tune up he might lose?
The fight will be far bigger on May 5th than at any other time of the year, as that date has gone, it makes sense for him to wait for it to roll around again, presuming that is what he is going to do.

Yes he's doing the right thing, I just stated what I'd preferred. He wont have much trouble with Powell.
What I'd like to see is them both fighting on same card, perhaps in Winter. That card would be BIG, both against easy tune ups, to set a stage for the HUGE fight between them on May 5th. Another year out for Oscar may be too much.

He was very encouraged by the way he handled the 20-month layoff against Mayorga and says a 12-month stint will effect him even less!Max Molyneux wrote:With Oscar being a bit inactive, I'm wondering how much he'll have left. I wouldn't mind so much if he had a tune up before FLoyd but FLoyd might not be able to handle being a Light Middle so it's interesting.
I think the break did him more good than harm and another one isn't such a bad thing. Although, I do hope he ticks over during the break and not look like he could compete in a pie eating contest against James Toney, Ricky Hatton and Danny Williams (as he did earlier this year).
The one question mark on the "new" and revitalised DLH that he hasn't answered is - can he sustain the pace he set vs Mayorga for 12 rounds.

He will need to if he is going to defeat Mayweather. If he is able to do that it is a very winnable fight against the naturally smaller man.stujones wrote:I think the break did him more good than harm and another one isn't such a bad thing. Comparing fighting Mayorga to Pretty Boy Floyd, is like comparing shagging Letitia Dean and Heidi Klum.CrunchTime wrote:He was very encouraged by the way he handled the 20-month layoff against Mayorga and says a 12-month stint will effect him even less!Max Molyneux wrote:With Oscar being a bit inactive, I'm wondering how much he'll have left. Oscar may be able to get fit and relatively sharp, but it will be in making the adjustments during the fight he may find himself struggling.

I'm quite sure Oscar was referring to the conditioning factor and didnt intend it as a comparison between Mayorga and Floyd, he knows better.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Comparing fighting Mayorga to Pretty Boy Floyd, is like comparing shagging Letitia Dean and Heidi Klum.CrunchTime wrote:He was very encouraged by the way he handled the 20-month layoff against Mayorga and says a 12-month stint will effect him even less!Max Molyneux wrote:With Oscar being a bit inactive, I'm wondering how much he'll have left.
