Most Overrated Gym in the UK?

Whys that would you say Mickey .

I would say that gyms that are in the South of England, tend to get more smoke blown up their arses than the ones up the North if England. Maybe its to do with Media Bias or London centric media

No offence, but I also get really bored of hearing the south of England lumped together, when in reality you're talking about London. For example, Chris Sanigar's track record in Bristol has nearly always flown under the radar despite the successes of the likes of Glen Catley, Dean Francis, Ross Hale, Lee Selby, Lee Haskins etc.

Speaking as a West Country man, that does wind me up too. Listening to Glenn Catley's experiences on Boxing Life Stories brings home just how invisible the whole region is in boxing despite having plenty of talent. Even Chris Sanigar got most of his experience in London.

I don’t know. The guy at Birtley is the best trainer in the amateur game for me, but goes under the radar. The Leeds boys at Hunslet are mainly travelling boys and don’t go to school, Hope Price and his brothers have won it all. But I suppose it’s the same all over the country....

None of the Birtley lads are travellers, and they had two on the Olympic squad, three in the worlds and one world junior.

I was the same age mate - did Tae Kwon Do from 11-18, but got disillusioned by semi-contact sparring.

Yeah very good club indeed. Graeme Rutherford must be an exceptional trainer to produce the fighters he has. Of course success breeds success and fighters will travel just to be at Birtley, just like they travel to box for Repton

Like I said, I don’t class Repton as everyone seems to flock there. I remember Sedgefield having some outstanding kids.

I don't see that at all - in recent years it's been the likes of the Ingles and Gallaghers that have been most prominent in the media, both of them based in the North.

I don't see that at all - in recent years it's been the likes of the Ingles and Gallaghers that have been most prominent in the media, both of them based in the North.

Listening to Glen Catley on you tube the other day he said he eventually quit after waiting months for his money and only picking up 1500 quid.
I was surprised to hear that as I always thought him and Saniger were close and I hadn't heard anyone speaking badly about him

A quick google suggests he probably walks medium-heavy, but not as heavy as say the Bowers brothers

The impression I get is Sanigar did as well as he could with what boxing infrastructure/interest there was in the South West at the time, but that wasn't enough to properly promote a world level fighter like Catley.
