Round 9 - really close. I gave it to Tug. I have Nyambayar ahead 86-84. Farhood has it a lot wider for Tug on the broadcast.

Tug's work is sharper, but he has the annoying habit of often walking forward without throwing. Sometimes he looks a bit lazy in there, while Breedy is working har.

Breedy hurt a bit, I didn't see Tug hurt but he got outworked and landed after that good burst early in the round

Breedy’s jab is so sharp. He’s winning the fight on it. I have it even through 11.

I’d love to see Breedy fight again. Great jab and aggression. Fought with his eye almost shut. Got up twice in the first two rounds to battle back.

Lubin is a really skillful fighter and much better than the Charlo fight made him look, though I do get a vulnerable vibe to him, he's been down or hurt I think in 3 or 4 fights now?

Looked worse for wear after Gausha’s only meaningful moment in the fight. Nice right hook at the end of the fight from Lubin.

Lubin outpoints Gausha in junior middleweight eliminator

Junior middleweight contender Erickson “Hammer” Lubin earned a mandatory world title shot by winning a unanimous decision over Terrell Gausha in a mostly slow-paced title eliminator on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Lubin, who won 118-110, 116-112 and a surprisingly close 115-113, in the main event of a Showtime-televised tripleheader, earned a mandatory title shot against the winner of the 154-pound title unification fight between Jermell Charlo and Jeison Rosario. Lubin’s lone loss came by first-round knockout to Charlo in 2017, but he has now won five fights in a row since.

There was very little action in the fight although it did pick over the final few rounds. In the 10th round, Gausha rocked Lubin (23-1, 16 KOs), 24, a southpaw from Orlando, Florida, but could not keep up the pressure.

“He buzzed me with a shot, but I’m in shape, so I was able to recuperate quick,” Lubin said. “It was like nothing happened.”

Lubin returned the favor by doing damage in the final round of a mostly forgettable bout. Gausha (21-2-1, 10 KOs), 33, of Cleveland, who was a 2012 U.S. Olympian, suffered his only other loss by decision challenging Erislandy Lara for his junior middleweight world title in 2017.

“I definitely made a statement,” Lubin said. “I beat one of the top guys in the division, and that’s always a statement. I feel like I beat one of the top 154 pounders and I’m going to keep doing that. I’m going to stay in the gym and keep getting better. I know I hurt him in the last round. I was trying to get him out of there, but still be cautious. He was game. He’s an Olympian with good experience, so I didn’t want to get too wild.

“I think Jermell Charlo is going to come out on top against Jeison Rosario. I’m ready for a rematch if he can take care of business like I did. I changed up a lot since the first fight. I have a master trainer in my corner in Kevin Cunningham, along with my longtime trainer Jason Galarza. I’m just all around a better fighter since the first time we fought.”

Gausha gave Lubin credit for the victory.

“I take my hat off to Erickson Lubin. He was the better man tonight,” Gausha said. “I bit down and showed true grit and I have nothing to hang my head for. I know I hurt him in the 10th round but he was able to recover. I was trying to step on the gas and finish him off but he was the better man.”

In the co-feature, featherweight Tugstsogt Nyambayar (12-1, 9 KOs), 28, a Mongolia native fighting out of Los Angeles, won a split decision over Cobia Breedy (15-1, 5 KOs), 28, of Hyattsville, Maryland, in a hard-fought title eliminator.

“King Tug” Nyambayar won 114-113 and 114-112 while Breedy won 115-111 on one scorecard, the difference being that Nyambayar dropped Breedy twice in the, the first round and the second round. The win put Nyambayar in position for a shot at the belt held by Gary Russell Jr., who outpointed Nyambayar in a mandatory fight on Feb. 8.

“It was a tough fight,” Nyambayar said. “I have a lot of respect for Breedy. He’s a great boxer. I thought I won the fight and did well to get the knock downs early. I thought I got the job done and I’m ready for the next step. I knew it was a close fight, but I wasn’t thinking about the score. I was surprised it was a split decision, but I thought I did enough to get the win.”

Fast-rising Philadelphia welterweight phenom Jaron “Boots” Ennis (26-0, 24 KOs), 23, looked superb as he notched his 16th knockout in a row, hammering Juan Carlos Abreu (23-6-1, 21 KOs) in a sixth-round knockout victory in the opener. Abreu (23-6-1, 21 KOs), 33, of the Dominican Republic, had never been stopped before.

“I was in there having my fun, then my dad said to stop playing with him, and that it’s time to take him out, so that’s what I did,” Ennis said. “I know he’s fought some tough guys in the past. Compare what I did to what they did. It shows the different skill level and attributes that I have. I made a statement tonight and stopped someone who’s never been stopped. Bring on the top 10 and top five guys or title eliminators. I’m coming for the championship next year.”

Ennis dropped him with a right uppercut in the fifth round and then floored him again in the sixth, forcing referee John Callas to wave it off at 1 minute, 6 seconds.
