Plant’s now said he didn’t have enough time to prepare.

“Talks are ongoing with Team Canelo and it would be an honor to reach an agreement on this tremendous fight with Callum Smith,” Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, Smith’s promoter, told Boxing Scene on Wednesday night.

Canelo by stoppage. Smith looks suspect to the body and has looked weight drained the last few. Expect Canelo will target it and stop him late.

Cal should have no excuses with regards to making weight or preparing for this.

This fight was first discussed in August and even before that, i'd assume, being an athlete, these guys should be training regularly. Especially knowing you COULD be fighting Canelo anytime around May or September, these 160'ers and 168'ers should be prepared.

The fact he’s 6’3 and still making 12 stone at 30 is surprising for me, thought he’d have moved up by now.

Hope I’m wrong as I like Callum.

He's probably just waiting to lose the belt of wait on the Canelo money fight before moving up.

Tbf Hearn didn’t refer to Liam or Callum and more went in on the fighters trained or managed by Gallagher that he didn’t have a promotional agreement with such as Callum Johnson and Jonas.

It may be that Smith is on a fight by fight deal in which case he could save money by ‘freezing Hearn out’ here. I’d imagine given Hearn has been on the Saunders and Smith train for Canelo I’d imagine there’s a promo agreement there.

But yeah seeing the two of them at the pressers might be a bit amusing given there’s likely several million dollars going to Smith in this deal if it does come off.

Yes, but good news for the other Callum, as no doubt Ed and Joe will makes amends right away, Seeing as Eddie is now backing Joe in operation f**k up Canelo, AKA mission impossible.

He should now push to get Johnson a spot on the undercard.

I don't fancy Smith's chances at all. Canelo pulverised Fiedling, but Smith is better than Fielding, but then again, Callum struggled terribly with Ryder, and Alverev is a lot better than Ryder. Canelo seems to have great success breaking these taller Super middles/Light heavies in half !

Smith pulverised Fielding as well. That’s hardly the barometer of Canelo’s success.

Canelos obviously fought the best but by Christ he’s had some atrocious defences as well. And he was gonna fight Yildrim too.

I'm thinking also about the physical dimensions of Smith & Fielding and Canelo & Ryder :maybe: The form line looks ominous to me ! Not saying it will be a quick blowout like Fielding was, but ultimately Smith is probably going to get stuffed in similar fashion.

He does fight on the inside a fair bit too, doesn't he, Smith, remembering him v Groves. A nightmare tactic v Canelo. Is this fight back on again now? Would be a very good one, Smith being Ring Champ at 168, one would expect a competitive bout, though one has to favor the marvelous Canelo.

This just in. My Uncle Vernon, My Grandpa, and the guy that works at Auto Zone also rumored to fight Canelo.

That's everybody now right?

originally i fancied smith to beat saul before the ryder the fight, i think smith has the tools to win good long strong jab can move , has power can take a shot, but he turns off during fights against saul you will have to be switched on 100 percent . not sure he can counted on to be, i still think smith can win this fight i think the best smith beats the best saul

I wonder if the “agreement” they’ve reached involves Smith having to boil down to a catch weight of 164 like Chavez did.

I suppose Alverez is the golden goose in boxing and everyone is forming a long queue for the chance to get a great payday, but let's hope there's no weight making stipulations and the fight is made at 12st.

That said, weight making stories are so tedious and so many boxers have that card waiting up their sleeve to pull out when they lose.

If John Ryder (no disrespect to Ryder) can beat Smith, which he did clearly in my opinion, Canelo will fold him up like a deckchair.

Won't even be competitive. Similar to the Fielding fight.

Would much rather see William Joe in there with ginger ballax

Yeah I suspect we’ll hear excuses about notice, or how they want a rematch in front of 60,000 at Anfield bla bla.
