Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella - 21 November 2020
Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella - 21 November 2020
I sort of stopped scoring it, at best I would estimate 8 rounds to Benn and 2 even. Benn by a mile anyway you look at it.

Formella crazy toughness took so many clean shots and never realy looked hurt, both head and body.. toughness is good but i dont think there was a round i could give to formella. maybe 100-91 for me.

Conor not quite ready for Josh Kelly yet, but this time next year.. would be the best non PPV fight of the year ?
Or chief support on a PPV ?

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella - 21 November 2020
He looked good Benn, I only gave Formella a round but he takes some shot, Benn punches hard and loads up with every shot, his jab is like a back hand, landed the overhand right consistently, works thr body well but thought he neglected it at times, still a lot to learn, stays in the pocket too long sometimes and is still easy to hit but overall a very good win compared to the others, his engine held up as well despite swinging every shot from the rafters, all in all a great nights work

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella - 21 November 2020
Just seen the Lartey stoppage now.
Looks legit .. but Wardley, whilst a good puncher, I didn’t think he was that devastating a puncher .. similarly I thought Lartey was more durable than that.
I wonder if Lartey is still not back in shape after the Gorman fight which was only a 5/6 weeks ago. Not much time to recover after a heavyweight 10 rounder with little gloves on

Remember how Lartey came out of nowhere before the Dubois fight (much like Fujimoto and Tetteh.) Then he puts in a half decent show on before being knocked out and everyone assumes based off of that that he’s good?
If Gorman gets made mando along with Aardley for the Vacant British I bet they go a different route.

I was really impressed with Benn. Excellent hand speed and punch variety, a good work rate and didn’t seem to tire too much. Was still a little open at times to the straight right but Formella wasn’t going to test his chin.
Be interesting to see how they match him next. It’s a real shame the Chris Jenkins match isn’t happening.

This whole card was absolutely honking.
Little shouldn't be on TV. Babic is rotten but at least he's fun i guess.
Richard Lartey obviously has some kind of damage, he was on chicken legs from a jab, i think they need to get him an brain scan and he should retire.
Benn boxed well but he has no power. Formella is simply awful, this guys is never an athlete, god knows how he built a record like he has.

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella - 21 November 2020
I got bored with Benn after the 7th round and went to bed. Maybe my brain wasn't in focus due to being on early shifts and was wanting to get to bed anyway. Benn looks good but there isn't any power. Now he is kind of stepping up to the guys who can take a shot but not dish owt out you know the outcome of the fight. Checking the result this morning there wasn't any surprises so I got an extra 10 minutes sleep.

Babic is fun at this level but when he meets the genuine live bodies he will come unstuck and move down a weight. He's decent at his work load from what I've seen but no one had pressured him yet and pushed him back or smothered his punches.Ricky wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 22:36 This whole card was absolutely honking.

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella - 21 November 2020
Us old uns have seen the Larteys before. The ring used to be full of them back in the 80s fighting for the vacant commonwealth title. Benn Sr was fed a few of them too. Decent record in their own country but bring them over here and that record becomes laughable. In the 80s you would try to research their records and finds boxers in their career wins didn't exist.jameswilson wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 19:37 Remember how Lartey came out of nowhere before the Dubois fight (much like Fujimoto and Tetteh.) It will be PPV .... with a "stacked undercard". You'll see.
Hearn warming us up now ..."a fight with Josh Kelly will be MASSIVE!". This is what he does. Between now and next summer he'll have the casuals thinking Benn is the second coming of Roberto Duran and watching him fight is yours for a mere £24.95.

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella - 21 November 2020
And he's beaten some half decent fighters. Strange.. Maybe Benn is better than we think....
I remember seeing Benn is central London a year or so ago. He had this menacing aura that made you feel you shouldn't go near him. He's not a big man or anything but I could really sense that from him. Probably just like his pops.
As he mentioned Samuel Vargas would be a good shout. I think that's a guaranteed another 10 or 12 rounds for Benn. I'd still like to see the Jenkins fight.
Also be good to see them put him him in with someone who can punch but at tail end of career.. Like Molina Jr.
I think he's maybe five or six fights away from taking a real gamble with him against someone like Josesito Lopez or Collazo.

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Sebastian Formella - 21 November 2020
Up to the date Formella looks like a decent gatekeeper, but probably he'll turn to a journeyman quite soon. He's not awful, he makes opponents work and doesn't get overwhelmed.
