Andy signed to fight Golovkin, but then Gennady's father died and the fight got cancelled. When he had the WBO belt, he made a mistake fighting BJS instead of Golovkin. I can't find what he earned for that fight, but as I remember, ticket sales weren't good.

I knew Andy Lee did seem keen to take that fight but it never happened.
If that's how it played out then he can't be accused of ducking. Real shame that one never happened because that belt now only appears in home videos of BJS talking pish about wanting to fight Golovkin.

I decided to make a list of champions that have officially DUCKED Gennady Golovkin since he became the Regular WBA champion in 2010.

1.Felix Sturm - WBA (2010-2012),IBF (2013-2014)

Golovkin was the Mando of Sturm when he was the WBA champion, he never EVER faced him.

2.Daniel Geale - IBF (2011-2013),WBA (2012)

Golovkin was the Mando of Geale but Geale elected not to face him and got stripped of his WBA title.

3.Sergio Martinez - WBO (2010),WBC (2010) (2012-2014)

Golovkin has been calling out Sergio Martinez since he made his american Debut on HBO, Martinez never EVER responded and faced inferior opponents eventually losing his titles in 2014.

4.Miguel Cotto - WBC (2014-2015)

Golovkin Called out Cotto instantly when he won his world title in 2014, Golovkin was the mandatory challenger to Cotto yet Cotto chose to fight Geale AND Canelo. When asked about Golovkin in post fight press conference he didnt know what to say making facial expressions indicating that he does not want the fight.

5.Peter Quillin - WBO (2012-2014)

When Quillin was the middleweight champion K2 promotions made him an offer (As stated by Tom Loefler) to face Gennady in the states yet Quillin never responded, later in 2015 in an interview Quillin stated he wants $5-10m in order to face Gennady pricing himself out of the fight.

6.Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam - WBO (2012)

Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam was the mandatory challenger to Gennady Golovkin, he opted himself out of the fight and lost his mandatory position thus avoiding Gennady Golovkin.

7.Sam Soliman - IBF (2014)

Soliman won the IBF title in 2014 from Felix Sturm, immedietly after winning the title he called out Gennady Golovkin, then Golovkin fought his countryman Daniel Geale. Sam Soliman saw the fight and changed his mind stating he will NOT fight Golovkin after what he saw.

8.Darren Barker - IBF (2013)

Barker won the IBF title in 2013 when he beat Daniel Geale, later in the year Golovkin offered to Barker to fight him in England with a very low purse and his only demand was for them to give Team Golovkin 10 FREE tickets. The promoter realised Golovkin was the real deal and never accepted the fight.

9.Canelo Alvarez - WBC (2015)

After Canelo won the WBC title from Cotto he was obliged to fight his Mando Gennady Golovkin, Canelo insisted Golovkin should come down to 155 or there is no fight. In order for Golovkin not to lose the super fight he accepted that Canelo should take one more fight before facing him in order for the nagotiations to be more fair in september (Make the Fight at 158-160). This move was criticized and will remain in history as a duck EVEN if Canelo eventually fights Golovkin, a true champion would have fought at 160.

10.Billy Joe Saunders - WBO (2015)

BJS won his major title beating Andy lee, and has stated in MANY interviews that he doesnt intend to fight Golovkin EXCEPT if TeamGGG offers a ridiculous amount of money, which he doesnt deserve. Golovkin offered him $3.2m to fight yet he asked for more money to make the fight happen, thus officially ducking him by pricing himself out (Even if the fight does happen, the amount of money needed to make it would be immense, meaning that if Team Golovkin did not have the money it would be a duck)

ok so since 2010 we had 10 CHAMPIONS that ducked Gennady tripleG Golovkin, I think something like this has never ever happened in the span of 5 years, its just sad. The amount of fear he produces is unreal. If I forgot ANY other champions that ducked him feel free to add them.
:TU: :salut:

Although this thread is from 2016 it reveals the cold truth. The truth is all these champs felt that Golovkin could've affected badly their careers by KTFO them and they pretty much ducked him and acted like 'who Golovkin is?'

I am big fan of Caneo Alvarez, but man, GGG was ducked big time in his prime years. Especially Felix Sturm deserves savage beating from him. I am also big fan of Sergio Martinez, but he was tailor made for GGG. Seeing prime Quillin to be beaten by GGG would be good, but Danny Jacobs did even better job with this :box:

Why have you resurrected a thread discussed during 2016?
Why does it bother you?
I’m interested as to the reason why you resurrected a mostly factually inaccurate thread.

By your own admission, you cannot prove that Team GGG made offers to any of their big name rivals that were subsequently rejected.

And by your own admission, Team GGG constantly lied about Gennadiy’s ability to compete and beat the best fighters from 154lbs to 175lbs. They boasted an ability to do something they never once attempted to fulfil.

And by your own admission, GGG refuses to grant rematches to Jacobs and Derevyanchenko, but automatically feels entitled to face Canelo for a third time.

We can debate these facts at length if you want to.

We’ve had this discussion before and by your own admission, your counter-argument was based purely on your own assumptions and faith, because you couldn’t previously prove that K2 even attempted to make fights.

Did GGG prefer to vacate the IBF title to avoid facing Derevyanchenko, in order to participate in the Martirosyan mismatch?

Did GGG renounce his WBO mandatory challenger status to face the anonymous, unheralded and unaccomplished Steve Rolls rather than fight Demetrius Andrade?

Did GGG walk away from TWO guaranteed fights against Billy Joe Saunders, after the Brit had signed two contracts?

Isn’t it also true that there almost evidence of Team GGG initiating contract negotiations and also submitting financial offers to Gennadiy’s rivals that have been accused of ducking?

Isn’t it true that GGG isn’t willing to engage in rematches against Jacobs and Derevyanchenko. And he also flatly refuses to fight Demetrius Andrade?

Isn’t it also true that Team GGG received an offer, that Loeffler publicly admitted to receiving, from Andre Ward, which was immediately rejected?

Isn’t it also true that Team GGG kept mentioning Andre Ward’s name to the media, but then stopped doing so after videos captured Andre Ward approaching Tom Loeffler to stop using his name to market Golovkin, if they’re unwilling to even try to make the fight?

And isn’t it true that during GGG’s middleweight title reign, he was constantly calling out smaller fighters rather than his 160lbs or 168lbs peers?

Isn’t it true that GGG abandoned a guaranteed opportunity to face Peter Quillin, but walked away from the purse bid process?

Come on, roll the dice and show me what you’ve got!

Would that bother you? :OhYes:

Indeed Golovkin was ducked big time in his prime years. When Golovkin was 34-35 y/o suddenly the young top champions (a few of them) wanted to fight him but even then they could not beat Golovkin! lol That's how good Golovkin was!

I never felt that was a "duck. They were at the end clearly and making some money. GGG brought nothing to the table. Be realistic

Canelo put off fighting him for a year. Guys like sturm of courae avoided him for sure. But superstars at. the end of their careers are making money not facing guys who have no following and no fans.

lol Nope! Golovkin would've brought 'drama show' and real T/KO punching power, giving us-the boxing fans an action packed fight! Let's be realistic here! All I knew is that Golovkin was Cotto's No. 1 mandatory challenger for tha wbc mw title and also before that G was calling Martinez out. :TU:

As a simple boxing fan I don't care which fighter is squeezing more money to cash in. I want to see intriguing matches. Golovkin was a champion at that time and he was broadcasted by HBO. He wasn't a nobody in the mw division at that time. :TU:
